Work is already underway in some German vaccination centers. However, they are far from being fully operational; there is not enough vaccine for that. The approval of further preparations could help.

Many people who wanted to be vaccinated could hardly wait.

The vaccination center Pristorf in the south of Schleswig-Holstein has also been vaccinated since Monday.

A good week after the official start of the vaccination, this does not mean that it is busy.

120 people are injected with the Biontech preparation every day.

Only two of the six established vaccination lines are in operation.

There is not enough vaccine for more.

Bundeswehr soldiers help with the logistics - and with compliance with the hygiene concept so that there are no infections around the vaccination.

There are around 400 vaccination centers in Germany.

But not all of them are up and running yet.

This is also the case in Berlin.

There are a total of six vaccination centers here.

As soon as they are all up and running, large numbers can be vaccinated.

Albrecht Broemme, coordinator of the Berlin vaccination centers:

The maximum number is 20,000.

When we get there, of course, depends on when the vaccine arrives.

But I guess in a week the next two vaccination centers will continue and then in maybe 14 days with the others.

«

Currently, however, vaccinations are only given in the largest vaccination center in Berlin, in the arena in Treptow.

After the official start at the end of December, the vaccinations were interrupted because there was not enough vaccine.

Now it goes on, but with a limited selection of patients.

Albrecht Broemme, Coordinator of Berlin Vaccination Centers:

We have only invited those over 90 in the last few days, who are now gradually getting in touch.

I'm really curious to see how many more want to come here.

«

Nurses from care-intensive homes are also vaccinated here.

All in all, several thousand people could get an injection every day in 80 cubicles.

Currently there are much less.

Vaccination

Centers:

We planned that we could do 600-800 vaccinations every day when there are so many registrations.

We're not quite at this level today.

But the accounting won't be done until the evening when we can take stock.

«

At the same time, however, the mobile vaccination service that drives to the care facilities runs.

He has the greatest number of vaccinations.

According to the RKI, almost 20,000 people in Berlin were vaccinated up to and including Monday.

Across Germany there are slightly more than 315,000.

And those responsible are optimistic that the numbers will soon increase when more vaccine comes, also in Berlin.

Albrecht Broemme, Coordinator of the Berlin Vaccination Centers:

»The prognosis that I made back in December was that we would have vaccines in abundance in mid / late January, especially if not just one company can deliver, but several companies.

«

Only the vaccine from Biontech is currently approved in the EU.

On Wednesday it will be decided whether the preparation of the US company Moderna should also receive approval in the EU.

It is unlikely that the vaccine from the University of Oxford and the British-Swedish pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca was also used.

It is already being used in Great Britain thanks to an emergency license.
