Covid-19: 26,784 new cases in 24 hours, more than 100,000 people vaccinated in France

316 people have died since the day before in hospital, bringing the total to 71,652 deaths from the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic.


26,784 new contaminations were detected in France in 24 hours, according to figures published on Wednesday, against 23,608 the day before.

This is the highest daily toll since November 18, which recorded 28,383 contaminations.

In total, 2,965,117 cases of Covid-19 have been identified in France since the start of the pandemic in France.

The upward trend in hospitalizations of Covid-19 patients continued on Wednesday.

Hospitals welcomed 1,907 new patients with Covid-19, 81 less than the day before.

A total of 25,650 people are hospitalized, the highest figure since December 8.

292 patients were received in the intensive care units in 24 hours (-21).

The number of people admitted to intensive care is however increasing, from 2,839 the day before to 2,852 on Wednesday, a number never reached since December 15.

The positivity rate remains stable at 6.7% as on Tuesday, an increase compared to Monday (6.6%).

More than 100,000 people received the first dose of the vaccine on Wednesday.

Now 692,777 French people have been vaccinated (including people who have received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine).

The government chose the status quo this week, deciding not to put in place additional restrictions and at the same time keeping those already in place.

Much to the chagrin of ski resorts.

The Secretary of State for Tourism, Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne, in fact announced on Wednesday that the ski lifts of the ski resorts

"would not reopen on February 1"

and that the sector was moving towards

"a white season".
