As the Covid-19 pandemic broke out almost a year ago, the world is counting its dead and is approaching two million.
The second wave, which began in August when the spring wave was barely ending, is proving to be longer and more deadly: 32,481 people died from the disease between August and the end of December, when they were 30,265 between February and July.
However, the daily peak in hospital mortality is higher during the first wave (532 deaths on April 8 compared to 419 deaths on November 19).
The fall was marked by less strict containment than in the spring, which failed to bring down the incidence to the levels hoped by the government to control the epidemic.
However, some regions are paying heavier prices for the epidemic, as is the case of Grand-Est, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Bourgogne-Franche-Comté.
