Since Westap announced the update to the app's private countries, millions around the world have flocked to rival Signal, which has already started updating its beta versions for Android and iOS with the addition of a host of features available in competing apps, according to a WABetaInfo blog post.

So what's new?

Among a long line of features, Signal allows you to choose a background suitable for each conversation - regular or group, with one of 21 built-in backgrounds or in an image from your gallery.

In addition, as in WhatsApp, the company incorporated animated stickers, along with the option to write personal status ("about") and voice conversations with 8 participants.

Following the harsh criticism that was heard, WhatsApp dropped in the download tables in the app stores.

Signal's official Twitter page boasted that the app had doubled the amount of downloads in Google's app store - from 10 to 50 million.

Now, it seems that the company is focusing on improving the application to make millions the transition more comfortable.

As you may recall, WhatsApp recently announced that it is postponing for three months - from February 8 to May 15 - the deadline by which users can approve the new terms of use of the app.

"We have heard from a great many people how much confusion there is around our new update," the official blog post said.
