Vaccine against Covid-19: where is France compared to its neighbors?

2021-01-25T15:23:16.427Z

INFOGRAPHIC - Sixty-four million people around the world have received a first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. In France, the pace of vaccinations is accelerating after a chaotic start to the campaign.

The government is putting the turbo on vaccination after the controversy over the slow start of the vaccination campaign in France.

Especially since the threat of new, more contagious variants of Covid-19 raises fears of a rebound in the epidemic.

After a difficult start and a growing controversy, the government decided to speed up and simplify the process.

On Saturday, Jean Castex announced that a million French people have been vaccinated against Covid-19.

The government is ahead of its forecasts since it had set itself the goal of reaching one million French people vaccinated by the end of January.

With now 1,026,871 people vaccinated, France is gradually catching up even though it is still in the least advanced countries in terms of vaccination.

Nevertheless, France vaccinates more on a daily basis than Germany.

To vaccinate the entire adult population (52 million people) by August 2021, “we would need to vaccinate 232,754 people every day,” says CovidTracker.

At the current rate (average of the last 7 days), the goal of vaccinating the entire adult population would be reached on September 6, 2022. But France, like its European neighbors, risks being the victim of a shortage of vaccine doses that lurks the 800 or so centers set up throughout France.

Despite the acceleration seen at the end of last week, vaccination figures remain below other major countries.

Indeed, according to the latest available figures compiled by Our World in Data, the British - whose vaccination campaign began on December 8 - have already vaccinated 6.82 million people (according to data as of January 23), far ahead of the Germany (1.63 million), Italy (1.58 million) or Spain (1.17 million).

Note the rise of Turkey, which in one week claims to have vaccinated 1.24 million people.

The vast majority of health workers have received a first dose of the Chinese CoronaVac vaccine.

Compared to the size of the population, it is Israel that leads the vaccination race by far ahead of the United Arab Emirates with a quarter of its population vaccinated.

In general, with a few exceptions such as Israel, the percentage of the population vaccinated remains very low all over the world.

Among the most populous countries on the planet, the United States is currently doing the best.

They are clearly ahead of Russia and China.

To date, more than 64 million people around the world have benefited from a first injection of the anti-Covid 19 vaccine, or 0.82 doses per 100 inhabitants, while nearly 100 million people have been affected by the coronavirus.
