Lucy Job announces the song "Set Me Free" performed by Eden Elena as a song that represented Israel at the Eurovision Song Contest in the Netherlands 2021, on the broadcast "Our Song for the Eurovision Song Contest" here 11 (Stills: Eran Levy, video: here 11)

After promising us preliminary stages, semi-finals, a grand final, fireworks and explosions, Israel chose the song for the Eurovision Song Contest on a gray transmitter that brought Channel 1 back to life for one evening.

Instead of live performances we got three clips, the voting closed even before the clips aired, and even the winning song was announced without a drop of tension, without knowing what the voting distribution was, and come on to the next show.

Lucky that here 11 retired from the rating committee and we will never know what fraction of a percent watched the show, but at the end of a particularly boring broadcast we have a winner - the song Set Me Free written and composed by Ido Netzer, Amit Mordechai, Noam Zaltin and Ron Carmi.

But we did not gather here for a TV review, but for a world-wide journey to see what Eurovision fans around the globe think and whether we have a chance to reach the Eurovision final for the sixth time in a row.

Before we dive into the comments, bets, and guesses, we'll tell you we're here at Walla!

Culture accompanies Eden's journey to conquer Europe, and no matter what - we are behind it and wish it great and great success.

Let's start with one of the most respected Eurovision pioneers, William Lee Adams, the editor of the website Weblogs, which is visited by hundreds of thousands of surfers a day during the Eurovision period.

"The song is simple and effective, Eden is good. The clip is good, she sells every chorus they gave her, every beat, every beat," William said, but Sage: "This song lacks a punch."

Deban, also from Weaviblogs, wanted it to be the winning song of the three, but was not particularly impressed: "A reasonable pop song, but it's not close to 'Packer Levi'.

In his opinion, will the song make it to the finals?

"I need Israel in the final, but the participants raise their qualities. This song does not, but it has potential."

Alicia Michelle, a popular Eurovision blogger from the United States who was also in Israel, could not hide her disappointment: "I did not hate it," she said, not before bursting out laughing when she discovered that the broadcast did not include live performances but only clips.

"I thought it was the song that needed the most work. I love the styling, but the production feels hollow. The song sounds old-fashioned and appropriate for the early 2000s. The song has disturbing parts and needs a lot more here."

Alicia especially loves the part of where Eden sings Set Me Free, but claims that other parts of the song sound "hollow, sad, and empty."

She said, "The song frustrates me because it could definitely be better. It feels bland and I have never felt that way towards Israel. It is a song that can represent Britain."

You may think this is a compliment, but Eurovision fans will tell you that this is one of the hardest insults.

And if already the United Kingdom, Nush from the UK is indeed enthusiastic about the song and even predicts a ending in the top 5, if the position will be similar to the atmosphere in the clip.

"You can't understand what the song will really be like until you see it performed live, but from the bottom of my heart we know that Eden knows the work."

Nush feels she already knows the song after just one listen, which is a good thing in Eurovision songs.

"The song is catchy and we need happy songs this year."

Pascal Wilper from Germany was happy to win Set Me Free which was his favorite of the three contestants.

"The song is really good and has a lot of surprises, like the modulation, disco wave, it's a versatile song with a lot of styles and the combination doesn't sound weird at all. Her voice is great too and I can't wait to see him on the big Eurovision stage in May."

And here are some representative comments we collected from YouTube:

Laura Verga from Hungary wrote: "The song is actually good and fun, good luck!".

Nelson added: "We can agree that this is not my heart's desire, but the song is not bad. The clip is excellent, the song is catchy, and I love the R&B sound that blends with pop and ethnic motif. Israel may surprise us all in Rotterdam."

Ismail from Azerbaijan complimented: "Congratulations Israel, lots of love and support!", Kim Stian from Norway actually thinks "this song is much better than last year's song", and Cristobal Miranda gave the biggest compliment: "The song cured my plague depression ".

There are of course also less connected surfers, like Steph Kill, who wrote: "Poor Eden, I hope the producers send the song to some improvements and make it interesting."

Neopel also expects improvement, or in the language of Eurovision fans, the revamp: "I hope they will save their chances of qualifying with the direction."

Jeffrey also feels compassion for Eden: "I feel bad for her. She's too good to sing this song."

Gambling Agencies (Photo: Screenshot, Screenshot)

And what do the betting agencies say?

As of this moment, the right question is "who cares about the gambling agencies". So far only two songs have been chosen, the terrible song of Albania and the song of Israel. Some countries have not even announced the artists who represented them at the Eurovision Song Contest, and it is not even possible to say that the pre-season is in full swing, but only at the beginning. Only after all the songs are selected can one begin to treat agencies as a kind of nice anecdote, so at this point it is not even a curiosity.

If you still want numbers, Eden moves and wanders between the awkward 38th place and the non-horrible 21st place even before the song was chosen. After announcing Set Me Free as the winner, Eden plunged into unfamiliar abysses, 40th out of 41. Any hysterical and restless Eurovision fan would know to tell you that even Albania ranked in these places in previous years managed to qualify for the final, so start memorizing the mantra "it all depends In a live performance. " It is interesting to note that the only two songs selected so far are ranked in the betting agencies in the last two places.

As you can see in the screenshot, only three agencies opened the betting at such an early stage, so it really makes no difference whether it is the last place or the first place. Let's hope that the Israeli delegation does prepare us for surprises and some kind of revamp that will jumpstart the song, just as happened to Elney Porra who represented Cyprus at Eurovision 2018. Until the rehearsals no one counted it, but on the eve of the finals it almost snatched our victory. Israel will participate in the first semi-final to be held on May 18 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands at 22:00 Israel time. We all pray to the Goddess Doz Foa that Eden will get to perform the song once again in the 2021 Eurovision final on May 22nd.
