Dear readers,
A few days ago we reported about various tools with which you can calculate your possible vaccination appointment.
You enter a few parameters such as age, occupation and possible contact with people in need of care into these calculators, then the tool outputs a result.
For a man in his mid-forties who do not work in a care facility, it looks like this:
»With a vaccination rate of 644,189 per week and a vaccination readiness of 54 percent, you can expect to receive your first vaccination dose between 1.3.2022 and 15.4.2023 receive.
You should then receive the second vaccination dose from March 22nd, 2022 to May 5th, 2023. «
Haha.
Funny, you think.
Not after this week.
Ordered too little, ordered too late - the bad news in terms of vaccination logistics is currently not over.
Instead, we seem to be running into a vaccination war: Export bans for vaccines produced in Germany that should be shipped to other buyer countries were discussed.
The main reason why the delays are dangerous is that they can make us lose the race against the virus' desire to mutate.
All currently approved substances are probably still effective against the mutants.
But when a resistant variant develops, the search for an antidote begins again - at least in part.
The first approved vaccines, which could finally tame the pandemic, were hailed as “game changers” in December.
If we keep dawdling, we could easily gamble away the advantage.
At least there was good news at the end of the week: The current restrictions are apparently having an effect, the number of infections is falling.
And that's still the most effective remedy for new mutations.
