Actor Dustin Diamond (Scratch from "The Redeemer's Ring") died of cancer at the age of 44
Diamond, who played Scratch in the successful series from 1989 to 1993, was hospitalized only about two weeks ago after being diagnosed with stage 4 cancer but his condition deteriorated drastically in the last week until he passed away today.

Actor Dustin Diamond, who played Scratch in the popular series "The Redeemer's Ring," has died at the age of 44 after a battle with cancer.
Diamond was hospitalized just two weeks ago after being diagnosed with stage 4 cancer however his condition deteriorated drastically in the last week until he passed away today.
A spokesman confirmed to the American media about two weeks ago that the actor had hospitalized himself after he became ill, where he was diagnosed with advanced lung cancer and underwent chemotherapy treatments.
He was in a hospital in Florida.
Diamond played Scratch in the series "The Redeemer's Ring" from 1989 to 1993. He also played the same role in the two sequels of the series, "The Redeemer's Ring: The New Class" (1994-2000) and the spin-off, "The Redeemer's Ring: College Years." In it most of the characters went on not only to the same college but also to the same dormitories in college.
"College Years" was canceled after one season.
Diamond returned to the high school where the program took place as the principal's assistant in the episodes of "The New Class," and remained in the program until it was canceled.
