More than 19,000 new cases of Covid-19 contamination were recorded in 24 hours in France, where hospital pressure remains high against a background of the progression of more contagious variants, according to data from Public Health France published on Sunday.

The number of contaminations (19,715) is down compared to the day before, a normal dynamic for a Sunday, but it remains on a very high plateau, fluctuating between 19,000 and 26,000 since January.
The positivity rate (positive people compared to all those tested) fell from 6.6% to 6.5%.
The situation remains tense on the front lines of hospitals, which this week welcomed 11,063 patients, including 1,767 in intensive care.
In 24 hours, 171 people died from Covid-19 in hospital (against 191 the day before), bringing the death toll to 78,965 since the start of the epidemic in France.
In previous waves, the number of patients in sheaves had reached 7,000 in the spring and 4,900 in the fall.
Some 1,866,091 people had received at least a first dose of the vaccine on Saturday (the figures are released with a one-day lag).
