The Dax prosecutor's office relinquished jurisdiction in favor of the Paris prosecutor's office, which has national jurisdiction in cybercrime.

Its operation is still disrupted this Wednesday.

The Dax hospital center (CH), in the Landes, was the victim on the night of Monday to Tuesday of an attack attributed to ransomware, according to the elements communicated by a spokesperson for the hospital.

“The hospital was the subject of a computer attack.

Our teams are doing their best to restore the situation as soon as possible.

The switchboard is impacted, ”tweeted the hospital, a 1,000-bed facility, without giving further details.

The attack caused major disruptions on the hospital's computer network, which were still ongoing on Wednesday, said the spokesperson for the hospital center, specifying however that the telephone lines had since been restored.

"An endangerment […] for the care of patients"

"In view of the scale of the attack", the prosecutor's office in Dax, initially seized of an investigation for "fraudulent access to an automated data processing system", relinquished jurisdiction on Wednesday morning in favor of the Paris prosecutor's office , which has national jurisdiction in cybercrime, said Dax prosecutor Rodolphe Jarry.

According to him, the attack "flattened the computer systems and the hospital telephone, with a clear and obvious endangerment for the care of patients".

"The hospital center reacted very quickly", assured Rodolphe Jarry.

This attack echoes the one that had greatly disrupted the Rouen University Hospital in November 2019, without endangering the health of patients, the hospital had at the time underlined.

The Paris prosecutor's office had opened an investigation.

In this type of attack, hackers break into the victim's computer system and then encrypt their files to make them inoperative, demanding a ransom to unlock them.
