Natural spectacle in the Pyrenees: Where the mountains are usually covered by brilliant white snow, the popular ski areas looked like sand slopes last Saturday.
Reason for the so-called "blood snow": Dust from the Sahara desert is carried by winds from the African continent over the Mediterranean to the Spanish-French border, and it also settled in Germany.
It is not unusual for the dust to reach Europe or even South America.
But particularly strong winds ensured that so much dust was thrown up as has not been so particularly visible since 2018.
Obviously you could still ski on the sandy slopes.
