On Feb. 16, Friday night, Britney Spears walked into a barber shop in the Tarzana neighborhood of the San Fernando Valley, California.

She was wearing a faded gray sweatshirt and outside the herds of paparazzi were waiting for her everywhere in those days.

The barber shop was already closed but the owner of the place was still there, and Spears asked her only one thing: 'Shave my head.

Take it all down. '

When she refused to do so, Spears picked up the haircut machine and shaved her hair.

The photographers standing outside documented everything, from a distance, through the glass windows of the barbershop.

Grainy photographs of a young woman falling apart.

It was one of the most memorable 'gossip' moments in recent decades - like Michael Jackson holding his baby son over the hotel balcony, a blanket covering his head, fans and terrified photographers underneath.

As Tom Cruise jumps on the couch of an opera broadcast.

Like Kenya West in ... well, in almost every one of his public appearances in recent years.

Anyone over the age of 12 in 2007 remembers the day Britney went bald.

But this was only one random and small point on the axis of disintegration that began before that day, and continued after it, to some extent to this day.

Because even today Spears has not yet finished reassembling the pieces of her life, and the power to do so for the time being is not in her hands.

Since January 2008 Spears has been under the guardianship of her father, Jamie Spears, after a legal proceeding ruled that her mental state did not allow her to make sound decisions about her assets as well as about herself.

This means that every decision - professional, financial, health and personal - regarding Britney Spears is actually made by her father, who is a very controversial figure in her life.

A glimpse into the small points.

The docu-film Framing Britney Spears - which is currently unclear if it will arrive in Israel - tries to stretch this axis and provide a much higher resolution glimpse into the small dots that connected and created it.

From the rise of her successful career and stepping up a star as the most successful pop singer in the world at the time, to the inevitable crash, but as the name implies - he is also re-framing the story from the beginning.

And this is a very important point, because even before the film breaks down the question of guardianship about Brittany and why it is still under her, it greatly sharpens the (late) understanding that even before we all loved to hate Britney, even when we really loved her - she was treated disgracefully.

Of all of us.

Watching the first part of the film turned out to be nothing short of shocking.

Spears, who was one of the biggest stars in the world at the beginning of the millennium, was repeatedly asked in front of open cameras and microphones, sometimes live: "Are you a virgin", "Why does the whole world talk about your breasts", "What did you do to Justin Timberlake", "Why are you Photographed in lingerie "?

These are not just provocations that the paparazzi shouted at her to squeeze a better picture or a juicy response that they could sell at a higher price to tabloids.

These were also leading journalists and presenters (such as Diane Sawyer, Matt Lauer and presenters of the View program, a strictly female panel that at the time were not yet so connected to their feminism, apparently).

Did you remember that?

I do not.

I mean, I remember sometime Britney Spears turned from the neighbor's girl who sang and danced sweet pop songs into a kind of trailer trash blossom that goes out to parties with Paris Hilton and vomits on Lindsay Lohan going out of clubs, but somewhere it tagged me under some personal maturation process of mine: she was adored when I was 15 years old, and at 17 I already despised her as I despised almost everything.

A matter of age.

But I did not remember talking to her like that, probably because at that time it would have made sense to most of us.

Seeing these photos and videos today, a decade and a bit away, is a shocking experience.

If I were to read these quotes out of context I would be guessing that they belong to a completely different era, such a mediocre attitude towards women, chauvinism and sexism of the sixties.

But that was really not long ago.

At a time when we have already caught ourselves advancing.

And this further highlights the change that has taken place in recent years in the world's cultural-socio-discourse towards women, including the important MeToo revolution.

And there was of course Britney's frenzy, there is no denying it.

Britney really lost it at some point.

The hasty wedding with Kevin Federline, two nearly consecutive pregnancies, drug use, obesity, neglect, hospitalizations in rehab and premature abandonment, embarrassing public appearances and back for goodness sake.

But she, too, retrospectively accepts a different context - so much cruel criticism, contempt, contempt, chauvinistic pettiness and slat shaming towards a young woman, 20 years old and a little bit overall, who would not have broken down?

The paparazzi have always been there, with their cameras outstretched and their lenses fixed, to document everything.

A bit like with Princess Diana a decade earlier, they accompanied and hearted the process from beginning to end.

They built Spears' public image, fed it with its tens of thousands of frames everywhere and from every angle, and they were there even when the crescendo of the end arrived.

In Diana's case it ended in death.

Brittany may not have died, but she too lost her life.

In 2008 Brittany was crushed.

She lost custody of her children in favor of her divorce, she was apparently addicted to drugs or medication (or both) and a forced psychiatric evaluation conducted on her by a court order determined she was unfit to manage her life.

Britney herself also apparently understood the seriousness of her situation and that the guardianship train had already left the station.

She was willing to put up with the loss of control over her life until she rehabilitated them and herself, but she asked for one thing: 'Don't give this job to my dad.'

Her will was denied and Jamie Spears, a man who had himself dealt with alcohol addiction and was present absent for much of his daughter’s adolescence, was entrusted with responsibility for all of her assets, her body, her life.

She was then 26 years old, a mother of two children and stood at the top of an economic pyramid rolling in millions.

In one moment she became a legal puppet on a string, thin and transparent strings were attached to each arm of her personal and professional life and the wooden cross that controls all movements was entrusted to her father’s hands.

The moment of the crash.

To this day, Spears is subject to the same legal definition.

In the 13 years since, she has rebuilt her life, her relationship with her sons.

She restarted her career and made a successful comeback, serving as a judge on the American version of the TV show The X Factor and starring in one of the most successful regular shows in Las Vegas history, with daily appearances over a long period, and of course, earning many millions more dollars.

Does this sound like a description of an incompetent woman?

And yet her father is the sole authority that decides everything - from small to large - about her.

In 2018, the lawyer who shares responsibility for her assets with her father petitioned the court to increase his salary on the grounds that there had been a marked improvement in the performance of the 'sponsor under his guardianship' (this is Britney Beach, yes?) And accordingly the volume of work and business she rolled increased Therefore his salary should be increased accordingly.

If there has been such a marked improvement in the function of the sponsor, is it not appropriate to re-examine the need for this legal sponsorship?

This is exactly the question raised by the docu, whose trigger for the creation is a public struggle in which Britney's fans, who believe she is being held hostage by her father, have started, without justification.

The #FreeBritney fan movement, which may have seemed in its early days like episode two of the viral saga Leave Britney Alone, has gained momentum.

The hashtag has become a popular protest that has spawned YouTube channels and podcasts that update daily on Britney's struggle to break free from her father's guardians, analyzing every post on social media, looking for encrypted messages and distress signals in the form of emojis.

This sounds very conspiratorial, and maybe even absurd.

But perhaps not fundamentally deprived?

Wonder the filmmakers.

This marriage also crashed.

It is impossible to know for sure that direct access to Brittany is blocked.

You can not ask her what her opinion or position is on this issue (or on any other issue - Spears has not been interviewed by the media for years) and the New York Times' attempts (which created this docu as part of The New York Times Presents series) to receive her treatment were met with thunderous silence. .

It is impossible to get to Brittany without going through her father, even if there is a very strong interest in leaving control in his hands.

But the signs are there.

Brittany is currently waging a legal battle to end her guardianship.

It's an almost impossible struggle, because like every other aspect of her life, here too - even here - she has no voice of her own.

She fights from the inside with the armor that surrounds her and is placed over her as a result of a decision by an outsider, without having the option, for example, to hire legal representation herself (she has an attorney appointed by the court to represent her). Will that voice resonate through the transparent cage where she Given 13 years? Is the legal definition that binds it a coup at all? Theoretically yes, practical - and this is also explicitly stated in Docto - there are very few cases where Jose has managed to revoke his guardianship. It's like a man in a crazy shirt having to convince a guard sane.

Meanwhile, the court decided not to finish the Jamie Spears control of the assets of his daughter, but he agreed to the request of Spears attach a banking institution which will be co-guardian. Britney's voice is still not heard, except for posts enigmatic and vague that it continues to increase frequency High for her Instagram, including after the film airs - weird selfies and nostalgic black-and-white illustrations, which her fans continue to obsessively analyze (blink twice Britney, if you are held against your will). But maybe you can make our voice heard, and apologize, because we were not always Fair with her

Well ourselves we chased her with cameras, and neither did we call her a prostitute live, we did not tell her she was crazy and we did not take her children or freedom.

But we also did not say anything when others did it to her, and maybe we even thought she deserved it, or at least that it was okay.

It's wrong, and it never was.
