The British car brand Jaguar plans to only manufacture electric vehicles from 2025.
Jaguar should be »reinvented«, announce the manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover (JLR).
At the Land Rover brand, the switch to electric models should take longer.
The company also announced that the first electric model will be offered in 2024.
Six years later, 60 percent of sales are to be "all-electric models with no exhaust emissions."
The aim is to offer a purely electric variant for all Jaguar Land Rover model series by 2030.
Another well-known car manufacturer is thus driving the phase out of the combustion engine.
Most recently, General Motors announced that it would only build emission-free cars from 2035.
Such specific annual figures for the complete end of diesel and Otto units are still the exception.
No plant closings planned
According to JLR, the entire company, including the supply chain, should be climate neutral by 2039.
It would invest £ 2.5 billion (€ 2.9 billion) annually in electrification and the development of connected services.
The energy supply should be 100 percent from hydropower.
"We will work together to develop into a truly responsible company," said Natarajan Chandrasekaran, chairman of the Indian parent company Tata Motors.
JLR recently got a new boss, the French Thierry Bolloré.
The company assured there would be no plant closings.
JLR currently offers an all-electric model, the Jaguar iPace.
There are also some plug-in hybrids, including the Range Rover.
