The Parler platform, popular with supporters of Donald Trump, is online again after a compulsory break of around one month - and has a new boss for the time being. It is still unclear who the technical service provider is.

The Twitter alternative Parler, popular with supporters of ex-President Donald Trump and the American right-wing, is online again after a compulsory break of over a month.

Messages could be sent again on Monday.

Initially, there was contradicting information on whether new accounts could already be created.

Parler went offline in mid-January after Trump supporters had storm the Capitol in Washington because Amazon, as an infrastructure service provider, threw the platform from the servers with reference to calls for violence.

At first it remained unclear who the technical service provider is now.

The new platform is based on a »sustainable, independent technology«, according to the online network.

In a statement announcing the relaunch, according to the Reuters news agency, it also said that Mark Meckler had been appointed interim managing director.

This replaces the former CEO John Matze, who was fired in early February.

In 2009, Meckler co-founded the right-wing group "Tea Party Patriots".

Parler was launched in 2018 and is a home for right-wing extremists and other right-wing groups.

Since corporations like Facebook and Twitter have been actively combating false reports as well as racist and violence-glorifying content, Parler has gained increased popularity.

After the storming of the Capitol in Washington by militant supporters of the elected US President Donald Trump on January 6, the Internet giants Amazon, Apple and Google cut their ties to Parler.

Trump was banned from Twitter and Facebook after the attack on the parliament building.

Twitter - until then by far the most important platform for him - stressed last week that there was no turning back for the ex-president.

Facebook is still having the blockade checked by an independent body that can reverse the decisions of the online network.

According to media reports, Parler courted Trump when he was still president - with the proposal to make the app his exclusive communication channel.

People in Trump's environment had repeatedly advertised Parler as an alternative to Twitter or Facebook because they suppressed supposedly conservative views.
