He more or less invented what we know today as a "crossover" - a family hatchback that was raised to look like an SUV.

The success was not long in coming, but now he is back for a third round with a much more crowded and tough competition.

What does he have to deal with it?

Like the outgoing generation and lots of other cars of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi concern it sits on the compact CMF-C platform but in its new generation (bonus: the dual-propulsion versions will come with a multi-link rear suspension, front-wheel drive with a voltage beam).

Unlike the current generation the bow and general lines are very modern and sharp, with narrow LED lighting units at the front and rear and a large grille.

Nissan Juke: A decade for its character

The dimensions have grown as expected and required.

With 443 cm in length (addition of 3 cm), width of 184 cm (3.2 cm extra), height of 164 cm (4.5 cm extra).

At the base of the wheels the growth is more modest and stands at an addition of 2 cm to 267 cm.

Nissan does not remove the trunk volume, but says that it has increased by "more than 50 liters" considering that the cabin volume in the outgoing generation is 430 liters, which is a good number anyway.

How did it happen?

According to Nissan the lowering of the cabin floor and a more compact packaging of the rear suspension unit.

In the cabin is preserved something of the rounded design of the outgoing Qashqai.

The most notable changes are the replacement of the multimedia screen and the air vents.

The first climbed up and grew to a size of 9 inches and will offer compatibility for Apple and Android.

The 12.3-inch digital dashboard and, according to Nissan, also a 10.8-inch top display - the largest in the category, it is not clear whether this will be standard or optional.

For those sitting in the back, separate air vents and charging sockets.

Safety systems include lane departure correction, automatic braking, "dead zone" vehicle warning, steering assistance to prevent an accident, automatic reversing braking, airbag added between driver and passenger and adaptive cruise control synchronized with speed sign detection system.

Like the current generation, the new Qashqai continues to serve Renault-Nissan's 1.3-liter engine.

This time it comes in two power levels of 138 and 156 hp (160 hp in the outgoing generation) with 27.5 kg in the powerful engine, to which will be mated a lightweight hybrid system that uses a 12V system to allow longer periods of engine bleeding. Continuous automatic is only mated to the more powerful engine so it is the one that will probably come to us as well. The

propulsion is front in both engine versions, with the more powerful one having the option of dual propulsion.

A more interesting propulsion unit is the e-POWER which Qashqai is making its debut in Europe. From a fascinating 1.5 liter gasoline engine that has a variable compression ratio and a power of 154 hp, however it does not drive the wheels but serves as a generator for the electric motors.

The advantages are the ability to operate in the efficient range of the gasoline engine regardless of the driving load, maintain a low level of CO2 emissions and on the other hand enjoy the capabilities of power availability in electric propulsion.

No performance data was provided for any of the versions.

Nissan, an importer of Nissan to Israel, said that the new Qashqai's arrival in Israel is expected in the second half of the year, with the e-POWER version arriving in early 2022. Close to the launch of the local model, we will also know the exact specifications of the vehicle and of course the price range. Will fit into the competitive category.

This is a group in which the latest, relevant and competitive price range extends from NIS 150,000 to the NIS 200,000 segment and is populated by a variety of competitors such as the Skoda Carroc, Peugeot 3008, Hyundai Tucson (which is about to be replaced), Kia Sportage, Chevrolet Trail Blazer and others. .
