What happened around the Quick of the Red Cross this Saturday afternoon in Reims (Marne)?

One thing is certain, a photographer from the Union, the local daily, was seriously injured in the head by a projectile.

The Union, which relates the incident of which his colleague was the victim, evokes the possibility of a paving stone which would have reached the photographer who originally came to cover a "rise in violence" in the neighborhood.

According to the local newspaper, it was around 2:30 p.m. this Saturday that the tension rose a notch in the so-called Red Cross district.

Police intervened near the local Quick restaurant after being informed of a suspected gunshot wound.

On the spot, no traces of an injured person, but on the other hand, around thirty young people appear equipped with iron bars, golf clubs and fire extinguishers!

It is in the tense context between young people and the police that this colleague was quickly taken to task by several of these young people.

The photographer was taken care of by a Samu team and his condition remains very worrying.

The prefect cautious about the circumstances

Contacted by Le Parisien, the Prefect of the Marne is less positive about the circumstances of this attack.

"The situation is not sufficiently known at this time," he told us by telephone.

“Around 3 pm, the police saw a movement of young people, converged on the Red Cross district, in order to avoid gang clashes, with regard to the national and local context, (note, some fights also had took place in this district in 2020).

The police went to occupy the land, ”explains Pierre N'Gahane”

“At 3.30 pm, a person on the ground is reported to the police in a nearby area.

The police immediately secured the scene.

The photographer was found unconscious, his head bloody and was taken care of at that time by the Samu before being transferred to the Robert Debré Hospital in Reims ”, adds the representative of the State.

A judicial inquiry was immediately opened and will tell what exactly happened further specifies the senior official.

“There was no crowd in this area when the police intervened.

The investigation may be difficult because it is a sector without a surveillance camera, ”the Prefect of Marne told us.
