The book "Donkey" by author Sami Bardugo (published by the new library) is the winner of the Sapir Prize for Literature of the Lottery for 2020 - so decided today (Sunday) the jury of the Sapir Prize for Literature headed by Adv. Ami Palmor. Chairman of the Lottery Avigdor Yitzhaki Arrived at Bardugo's house to inform him of the win.

The winner will receive a grant of NIS 150,000 and his book will be translated and published in Arabic and another foreign language of his choice.

In addition, Mifal HaPais will purchase a 500-book edition of the books of the five authors selected as part of the "short list" and the winner of the first prize, and will award them to public libraries throughout the country.

Bardugo defeated four writers who came with him to the finish line - Yosef Bar Yosef on the book "Father, Son, Grandma Dina", Roi Chen on the book "Souls", Guy Ad on the book "Vicky Victoria" and Yaakov Chamir on the book "Nehemiah ".

From the judges' reasoning: "In virtuoso and original language with purpose, wisdom and courage, Sami Bardugo's' donkey 'illuminates corners of abandonment and neglect in a way that has not yet been done. The book also manages to represent the triviality of consciousness, the emptiness, and yet its characters remain in their foreignness and thus also maintain their independence. "Live and spicy."
