Trailer for the "Ten Percent" series (Netflix)

One thing all the stars and stars of the French hit "10 Percent" have in common: they all came to the series with a fairly long mileage, but they were all quite anonymous before their casting, even in their homeland.

It is the huge success of the comedic drama that has made them stars, sometimes even on an international scale.

An example of this is Nicola Murray, who plays Harvey, the extroverted assistant of Gabriel, one of the agents in the talent agency that is at the center of the series.

The charming actor has been appearing on stage and on the screens for about twenty years, collaborating with some of the most prominent French art filmmakers, such as Patrice Sera, Olivia Asias, Philippe Garrell, Rebecca Zlotowski, Jan Gonzalez and many others - but only the role in "10 Percent" Made it a familiar name.

However, when the French media recently described him as "the next big next thing", he was quick to declare in response "I am too freak to be like that".

But Murray does not control the way others define him.

This week, about four months after celebrating his fortieth birthday he was named one of the most promising stars in Europe.

This, as part of an event called "Shooting Stars" that takes place as every year as part of the Berlin Festival - and this year, for the first time, virtually.

In that regard, I got into a brief zoom conversation with Murray.

I told him at the beginning that "10 percent" is very popular and constant in Israel and I asked him if he had a message for the local audience, and he had an immediate and enthusiastic answer - "I want to find a husband in Tel Aviv. That is my message!"

said.

We'll get back to that later.

Murray grew up in a small, conservative town in southwestern France, and his classmates disliked his coming out of the closet.

"I was hit at school," he said in the past.

"These are floating memories. Sometimes they hurt, but sometimes they are inspiring."

The esteemed actor became addicted to cinema inspired by his aunt, whom he calls Kiki, and especially liked vampire movies and horror movies - for example the masterpiece "Possesion" with Isabel Adjani, who became his icon, and in recent years has collaborated on "10 Percent".

However, he said that for him, the real inspiration is not movies, but words.

"Players are always asked what images shaped them, but what permeated me the most were the books I read in my youth," he explained.

Hare is a wonderful character on every scale, and also one of the most prominent gay characters seen on television in recent years.

"One of the most exciting things that happened to me was a message from a 16-year-old Brazilian who sent me a message on Instagram," he told me.

"He wrote to me that his father was a homophobe, until he started watching '10 percent 'and admiring my character. I grew up in the province, so I know there are a lot of homophobes in France, so it's very important to me to play a gay character and put her in a living room. I wish myself "He was a TV model like Have growing up on his knees in my youth. It would have been very helpful to me."

"Take Andrea, the character played by Cami Cotton in the series. She's a lesbian, but the series does not portray her as a 'lesbian.' She's just a woman in love, a woman in a relationship. I'm very proud that the series is responsible for such representation and spreading it all over the world."

In this context, did you hear that in the Turkish version of the series, the character of the homosexual was simply deleted?

"I did not know about it. Wow. This radicalization scares me a lot. What do I think of it? It speaks for itself. The word you used, 'delete', says it all. Deletion is a very naive move - it's not that deleting a gay character from a series of goats "Homosexuality from the world. It's just a hypocritical act."

Acting is Reacting is said to be especially true in Murray's case.

His reactions, facial expressions and body gestures are one of the main virtues in the wonderful series.

"That's right, reactions are for me the most important part of the game," he responds.

"I like the silences the most, the unspoken, the invisible. At one point, the directors who work with me understood that and used it, probably '10 percent. 'There are a lot of long shots in the series where you just see me listening. To me, the human comedy Lies in the reaction - how do you react to humiliation? How do you react to surprise? ".

Thanks to the success of "10 Percent", Murray was finally able to execute a script with which he traveled for years, "My Best Part", which became his first feature film as a director.

Having received the official stamp of the Cannes Film Festival and being screened in France, he now hopes to come with him to Israel, when he will make his premiere here as part of the Proud Film Festival.

"I understand that the film was purchased for your screening, and I hope to come and visit on this occasion," he promises.

"Everyone constantly asks me when I will visit Tel Aviv, and I would be very happy to do so. I would also like to visit Jerusalem."

I'll start looking for a match for you then.

Which Israeli man exactly do you want?

"I want him with a beard. With green or blue eyes, no matter, but one who was in the military."
