The design of the current generation makes it look larger than before, although the overall dimensions have not changed (OK, it is half a cm longer). Fate wanted and the beginning of the first day of testing in the Hyundai i10 I did in a very municipal turn around.

Manual box operation is excellent.

Its position at just the right height, everything is soft, cozy, smooth.

The adaptation period to the clutch and its point of friction was quite short and its engine equipped with two syringes per cylinder and electric valve timing system (hydraulic in the past and as usual) is flexible enough not to start the JAJ even if you were lazy to downshift.

And it also means that life with her even in traffic jams is far from the automatic apprehensions of a manual box (and yes, I from A-D are happy with myself for this pun).



Even outside the city the good comfort has been maintained and this is not a negligible achievement in a mini car, where the desire for a low price to the consumer goes backwards and dictates the use of relatively simple assemblies in the suspensions, dampers and even the insulation materials.

But all of these get a very good score on the i10.

Really noticeable noise will appear at speeds of 120-130 km / h and if you do distances at this frequency frequently - the problem is with you - this is not the car for such activity.

When we set out for the winding driving roads the round trip was mostly made up of descents, where one could be impressed by its road behavior.

"Impressed" here can also serve as a faithful description of what she did, because surprisingly she exhibited surprising levels of grip and stability.

Nor will its response to "mistakes" of sudden release from the throttle or tightening of the steering wheel at the peak of the turn really put the driver in trouble.

So it is not the stuff of driving pleasure, but it was fun to rediscover how small and simple a car manages to give a more direct feel than today’s big, heavy and detached cars.



On the way back when these curves were on a slope that required a steep climb it was no longer inevitable to work more tightly with the gears and maintain momentum.

Without power reserves or a turbocharger, you have to work with what you have and schedule every line to finish the ascent at a normal speed, especially when the two high gears are long and you should give up switching between Wednesday and Thursday in these places.

I divided the fuel consumption test into two parts, the first is the total consumption on test days that folds into the dynamic part and does not really reflect how it is used, where it recorded an average consumption of 14.8 km per liter. The second part was a continuous ride of about an hour in driving conditions. The expected use of it and combined a short urban part at the beginning and end of the trip and a moderate intercity cruise with bursts of traffic jams, this time the small one recorded an excellent fuel consumption of 18.7 km per liter.

Summary

The base version of the Hyundai i10 has longed for an era where simple cars were just as good at what they were supposed to provide - basic and efficient transportation.

In many ways it offers a desirable transportation solution for the corona period that pushes at least some people to fasten a belt and put in the parking lot of the house a cheap second car for purchase, maintenance, cost-effective in storage for short-term tasks.



Against the backdrop of the motor landscape that consists of a lot of average cars that are suitable for a lot of people, it was refreshing to meet a great car that is suitable, what to do, except for people.

The public votes with their feet and they do not like to press the clutch and the supply of manual cars in Israel is one of the poorest ever and this is the situation in the world as well.
