“We want to collect testimonies and verify that the listening and monitoring units are functioning properly.

The message from the Ministry of Higher Education is clear: we have to reframe things.

It must be said that, since the testimony of Juliette, a student of Sciences-po Toulouse victim of a rape during the integration weekend, the speeches of young women passed by the various Institutes of Political Studies (IEP ) from France made noise.

Collected by Anna Toumazoff, herself a former student of Sciences-po Toulouse, under the hashtag #SciencesPorcs, they reveal numerous sexual assaults and a certain omerta in these schools.

The sexist atmosphere is widely denounced within the school, like the “court of sluts” or “Grand Slam”, a tradition whose goal is to sleep with a girl from each IEP during the Criterium inter-IEP.

Sciences Po schools cover rapists, silence victims, and teach everyone else the law of silence.

Let us not be surprised by the state of our political class in view of what we teach them.

Faced with this flood of testimonies and the complaint lodged by Juliette which led to the indictment of a former student of the Toulouse IEP, the ministry therefore reacted by launching an investigative mission entrusted to the general inspectorate of the education, sport and research (IGESR), which begins this Monday and continues Tuesday in the Pink City.

This mission must continue in the various Sciences-po in France.

In the mission letter, Ali Saïb, chief of staff to Minister Frédérique Vidal, indicates that the mission is "intended to assess the measures that are concretely implemented in the fight against gender-based and sexual violence, to identify the obstacles or shortcomings limiting their implementation ”and to propose new actions to be taken in this area.

The objective is to become aware of the extent of the phenomenon and to facilitate the voice of victims.

"The Minister wishes to avoid the double punishment for the victims and that their testimony quickly leads to a filing of a complaint", we are told at the Ministry of Higher Education.

This action echoes the letter published by a committee of eleven researchers, all former students and / or lecturers at Sciences-po Toulouse, in which they denounced "a systemic problem which has its roots in the very functioning of the institution. ".

"There is in the IEP a particular variation of the culture of rape which spreads throughout higher education and research", they say, calling for strong measures such as the establishment of compulsory modules on gender-based and sexual violence and on discrimination, free and immediate access to legal information and a campaign to make visible the fight against gender-based and sexual violence within the IEP.
