In search of a treatment against Covid-19, Olivier Véran is placing his hopes in a French clinical trial, set up to evaluate the effectiveness of interferon-beta in the prevention of severe forms of the disease.
During his last press conference, Thursday, February 25, the Minister of Health cited this drug, which reproduces a molecule naturally produced by the body, among the
promising
“innovative treatments”

"Interferons form our first line defense: in the event of a viral infection, they are produced very quickly by our immune system, even before it needs to recognize precisely which intruder it is

Their role is to limit the replication of the virus, and its propagation from cell to cell. "
This early intervention blocks the spread of the virus which could otherwise lead to an uncontrolled inflammatory reaction.
