Microsoft last night (Tuesday) announced at its annual Ignite technology event, Microsoft Mesh - a mixed reality platform that allows people to communicate through 3D content interactions, with the projection of animated avatars and characters based on users' looks.

First, the service, which is a kind of social network, supports the company's augmented reality (AR) glasses, HoloLens, and later will also support products from other companies - such as Facebook's Oculus.

In addition, users of the smartphone, tablet or computer can also join the call, but the full experience will of course only appear to those who have glasses.

The goal of the software giant is to enable everyone around the globe to have a multi-participant virtual meeting "and feel like you are together in the same place."

"It was our dream of a mixed reality from the beginning," said Alex Kipman of the company's HoloLens project, adding: "You can really feel like you're in the same place with someone who shares content with you."

Also, as you can see in the video released by the company, through the platform creators will be able to display certain elements in space - like models and shared tools that will look like a hologram, and even play games in the real world like Pokemon Go.
