Those who use the Firefox browser will be offered an update to version 86 these days.
It contains a new function for the protection of privacy, the "Total Cookie Protection".
It is intended to protect Internet users from being followed by advertisers across the Internet.
Some in the tech industry and in politics think that the whole chase should come to an end soon.
Whenever we visit a website with our browser, the web server sends cookies, i.e. short identifiers with which the server can recognize the browser.
The technology should once serve to give the browser a memory.
Thanks to cookies, online shops do not forget our purchases and thanks to cookies we do not have to log in all the time.
However, the convenience function has become a money machine.
Dozens, if not over 100, of different cookies are usually served on commercial websites today.
Many of them are used for harmless purposes, such as retrieval statistics.
Others, however, are set to analyze the activities of the users: when they visit which websites, which topics they are interested in, which products they are looking for.
