The advertisement for Torah Judaism that managed to provoke a storm (Photo: screenshot, screenshot)

"In Baghdad it is Jewish, and it is also Jewish," was the opening of an advertisement for Torah Judaism, with pictures of dogs with domes and tefillin in the background.

The advertisement that provoked a storm comes against the background of the High Court's ruling: "Reform and Conservative conversions must be recognized for the purpose of the Law of Return." The legal system once again, and Torah Judaism and Shas clarified: "A government will not be formed without a law against me."

Shortly after posting on social media, Facebook removed the video, claiming: "The video was removed for violating hate speech policies."

But while Facebook has taken swift steps and removed the storm-provoking ad, it seems that if it had been up to the Election Commission, the video might not have been deleted at all.

"According to the rules of the High Court, the Election Commission has very limited powers, insofar as these are matters that are not explicitly prohibited in the Election Propaganda Law.

Therefore, the chairman of the Election Commission does not have the authority to remove even propaganda that has serious damage to emotions that is spread on the Internet, "said Dr. Tehila Schwartz Altshuler, a senior fellow at the Israel Democracy Institute and an expert in law and technology.

Dr. Schwartz Altshuler and Dr. Guy Lurie, authors of the study "Digital Propaganda and the Threat of Elections", state that "the chairman of the Election Commission should be given the authority to issue real-time restraining orders in exceptional cases where there is a violation of election propaganda laws.

However, it is not at all certain that the case of the 'disgusting' video is included in what should be considered intolerable in the Israeli public discourse. " Digital platforms are not regulated by legislation, while advertising in traditional media (newspapers, news sites, radio and television) is detailed.

Dr. Schwartz Altschuler adds another question that arises is whether the activities swiftly as possible of Facebook indicates that it intends to become an active player in the elections and gatekeeper of political discourse as it was in the United States.

Facebook responded to remove the video: "The video was removed for violation of policies words Hate"
