Bus stop near Wipperfeld (North Rhine-Westphalia): Local transport is in poor shape in many rural regions

It is an open secret that Andreas Scheuer is a car fan.
"Super gasoline flows through Andi's veins," said his CSU party friend and predecessor Peter Ramsauer.
It is all the more astonishing that the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure, led by Scheuer, is funding a research project that deals with “a life without your own car”: “Using an algorithm over the villages”, the somewhat cryptic title of the as yet unpublished study.
A Brandenburg research group, which calls itself a “Think & Do Tank for rural life in the 21st century” and is called Neuland21, prepared the expertise - on behalf of the Potsdam-Mittelmark district, financed by Scheuer's Federal Ministry of Transport.
For the minister, however, not all of the study's findings are flattering.
It's about the mobility of people living in rural areas, more than one in five lives there.
The population density is low, the nearest large or medium-sized town is often far away - and the most important means of transport is the undisputed private car.
