It is reminiscent of a time when Apple was not yet known as a manufacturer of hip cell phones for everyone, but earned its money supplying graphic designers and other computer professionals with the hardware for their work: In 2017, the company launched the iMac Pro , a high-performance computer.
The price could go up to almost 16,000 euros, depending on the configuration.
Many test reports were downright enthusiastic: »Finally a chic Apple computer that offers the professional high-end performance that is particularly useful for complex audio, video and 3D projects, that has a great screen and that not annoying with fan noise, «was the verdict of SPIEGEL.
But anyone who is toying with buying this device will have to hurry: Apple has stopped production of the computer.
The computer is only available "while stocks last," as they say in the Apple online shop.
The company confirmed the operation of the website "The Verge": The iMac Pro will no longer be produced.
The computer once presented as the “most powerful Mac of all time” is apparently not to be replaced by a new model.
Too expensive and not very flexible
In the past few years, there had been no "major updates," as reported by the US broadcaster CNN.
That alone was an indication that the computer might not have become a blockbuster.
In practical use, the iMac Pro apparently had a decisive disadvantage: The computer came with an impressive performance corresponding to the price.
However, many professional users complained that they needed a platform that they could easily adapt to their special needs in a modular way, for example in the music business.
For most hobby users, the computer was unaffordable: the standard version already cost more than 5000 euros.
