Self-experiment with NFT: How I (so far) didn't get rich and famous in five simple steps

The world is in an NFT frenzy: absurd digital things are declared crypto art and sold for absurd sums just because they are in a blockchain. Instructions with a glossary.

NFTs: Crypto Art on the Ethereum Blockchain

Twitter founder Jack Dorsey is auctioning a digital copy of his first tweet, currently the highest bid is $ 2.5 million.

You can bid here if that sounds like a bargain to you.

The artist Grimes has sold hundreds of hyperkitschy cyberbaby pictures, some with musical accompaniment, and bagged 5.8 million dollars for them in 20 minutes.

According to the current status, this drawn penis Hitler should cost the equivalent of around 177,000 dollars, for whatever reason.

Nothing prevents me from downloading such works with a click of the right mouse button, completely for free.

But that's not what so-called non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are about.

NFTs, affectionately known as »nifties«, are not copy-protected works.

To put it somewhat simply, they are entries on the forgery-proof Ethereum blockchain.

These entries tell who (more precisely: which Ethereum address) the "original copy" of a work belongs to.

Anyone who buys a Nifty from Grimes acquires "the right to show it off," as the New York Times put it.
