Instagram censorship: "We have seized the Defender of Rights", warns feminist Jüne Plã

Jüne Plã is one of the 14 feminist instagramers who are suing nothing less than the company Facebook, which acquired the social network Instagram in 2012. Known for her account Jouissance Club, and the eponymous best-selling book published in January 2020 (230,000 copies), Jüne Plã deconstructs gender stereotypes and other clichés about sexuality with its 822,000 subscribers.

Between account deletions, deleted content and cyberstalking raids, the young woman now wants Facebook to explain "its censorship policy".

How did you all get involved in this lawsuit?

We first formed a WhatsApp group, where we discussed together what was wrong with Instagram.

Are you the object of permanent censorship?

Of course !

We all have this in common.

My account has been deleted three times, which prevented me from working.

However, this is what allows me to earn my living today.

And then, I am not at ease on the network.

I'm always wondering, "If I disappear again, how do I get my account back?"

There is always this sword of Damocles above our heads.

Is account deletion the only problem?

No.

There are many others, such as masculinist reporting raids that blow up our posts or our stories.

This makes our accounts invisible, which end up

"shadow ban"

.

This Instagram feature prevents people who do not follow us from seeing our posts, by searching for hashtags, for example.

It happened for the Olympe Rêve or Prediction accounts in particular.

Photos of female artists, which are not at all of a sexual nature, are also deleted.

Why ?

We know the censorship that Instagram applies and we know that a female nipple, exclusively female, must not protrude.

We respect this rule, even if we do not agree.

Do you feel that your accounts are discriminated against?

Yes, because next to that, when we try to report very sexist posts, Instagram doesn't see where the problem is.

The same goes for pornographic or child crime accounts.

We are therefore entitled to wonder what bothers us.

The feminist and benevolent messages that we disseminate?

The rules of Instagram are very vague and we would like to see more clearly.

Those who have fun making us disappear, with these raids of violence and hatred, are not hiding at all, however.

Moreover, the Defender of Rights was also seized.

It is not normal not to feel safe on this network.
