Blue-and-white pride: The Israeli producer duo Uri Kaplan (Balkan Beat Box) and Uri Avni (Muki, Rotem Cohen) are behind the song that represented Russia at the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest to be held in May in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
The song "Russian woman" by the Russian artist of Tajik origin from Nigeria, was performed yesterday on Russia's main TV channel in front of about one hundred million viewers - and was chosen to represent the country at the Eurovision Song Contest.
The song won a landslide victory with almost 40 percent of the votes cast for it in the pre-competition in Russia.
Kaplan and Avni composed and produced the song and they recorded it together with the singer Manija (29) at a studio in Tel Aviv a few months ago.
According to Manija, the song "is about changing the awareness that women have been going through in recent years. Russian women have never been afraid to face stereotypes and take responsibility. This is the song's inspiration."
This is not the first time that Israelis have been behind the Russian song.
In 2017 and 2018, Neta Nimrodi and Arie Burstein took part in writing and composing the song for the Eurovision Song Contest.
However, in 2017 Russia withdrew from the competition due to the war with Ukraine while in 2018 it did not reach the final for the only time since the introduction of the semi-final method.
