Dutch TV show shows adults in full nudity for children (NOS Jeugdjournaal)

A Dutch television program for children exposes naked adults as they were on the day they were born to children aged 10 to 12 - so that they will learn what a "normal body" looks like and ask adults questions about the human body - including their hidden organs.

Allegedly, the program Simply Naked, which airs on the public broadcaster NOS, has good intentions: it is designed to educate children, promote a positive body image and go against body-shaming on the net.

However, the idea of exposing children to nudity has provoked much outrage in the Netherlands on the part of leading parents and politicians who have claimed the program is "disgusting" and "promotes pedophilia".

The producer of the program said that it was produced very carefully and was intended to educate children about the human body and not expose them to sexual content.

MP Tonhan Kozo called the show 'ridiculous' and told his Twitter followers to complain to the national broadcaster.

The Conservative SGP has raised the issue in parliament and wondered why the plan is expected to go up as planned without anyone preventing it.

The leader of the right-wing FvD party, Theri Bodett, also responded, claiming that "the program promotes pedophilia."

The harsh criticism came after the promo aired on a show that revealed the children's changing reactions and some of the questions they posed to naked adults, including how safe they feel in their bodies?

TV presenter Edson de Grasse told NOS: "The goal is to teach children that each body is different from the other and that not all bodies are perfect."

Elizabeth Reitzma of the Rutgers Sexual Health Foundation, who has partnered with NOS to produce the series, said the semi-pornographic images children see every day on television and the internet give them a distorted view of the human body.

"Those who see a normal naked body more often, have a more positive body image," she said.

The public broadcaster said in a statement: "The children knew exactly what they were invited for and could share their feelings during the show at any moment ... we expected some uproar. Not everyone will think it is for children and that is fine. Parents should decide if their children can watch it."

This is how it looks:

The series is based on the Danish TV show Ultra smider tøjet (Ultra Spread), which is currently in its second season.

The program has become popular in Denmark because Danes are more likely to believe that children should be exposed to the realities of life - in what is known as "Nordic parenting", a less protected Danish method of parenting.

Sophie Minster, a Nordic parenting expert, said the parental approach of many Danes is not to protect their children from the harsh realities but to expose them to it.

She gave an example of a famous case from 2014 in which a zoo in Copenhagen was shown to children the euthanasia and autopsy of a giraffe.

In other countries it would certainly have been perceived as a nightmarish spectacle, but in Denmark many parents supported it.

She explained: "A children's program involving naked adults may take the extreme Danish approach, but it's the Danish way of dealing with children's anxieties on issues related to body image, exposing them to it. This is how they educate their children, show them reality as it is."

On the other hand, counter-voices were also heard there.

A member of the right-wing Danish People's Party, Peter Scarop, claimed that the program "contains content not intended for children at these ages" and added: "Children need to learn these things at the right age. This is not age. This is information parents or teachers need to convey, not in such vulgar ways As the channel does. "
