It did not damage Nice, Cannes or elsewhere on the French Riviera, but the earthquake that shook Algeria on the night of Wednesday to Thursday did indeed have repercussions on our Mediterranean coast.
Between 1 a.m. and 4:25 a.m., the coast was placed on yellow alert ... Tsunami.
Two tremors were felt in Cagnes-sur-Mer, then in Grasse.
“Nice Matin” evokes two earthquakes that occurred “almost at the same time”: the first, with a magnitude of 3.2 on the Richter scale, emerged in Cagnes-sur-Mer at 1:12 am, according to the National Bureau of French seismology echoed in daily life.
The second took place near Grasse at 1:18 a.m.

As a precaution, the coast was the subject of increased vigilance during the night.
“The earthquake in Algeria which generated a yellow Tsunami alert on our Mediterranean coast last night around 1 am.
End of the alert since 4:25 am, ”Yannick Ferrand, director of the City of Cannes' major risk prevention office, posted a photo of the alert on Twitter.
The shallow magnitude 6 earthquake that struck off Algeria may have caused these two smaller earthquakes on the French coast.
The material damage on the Algerian side is a little more important, although this earthquake did not kill anybody there either.
