Coma: "Families must make choices for which they are not prepared"

The family is first of all in a state of bewilderment, because the onset of the coma is sudden.

Very often, when the lesions are severe, the resuscitators ask them to quickly make the choice to stop treatment or not.

This pressure remains strong, as the resuscitators feel a responsibility for what may happen next.

They do not want to burden families with the situation, which no one wants, of a loved one in a vegetative or pauci-relational state.
