Assistance Publique-Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP) is organizing three-day training courses so that nurses can strengthen the resuscitation workforce, which is under severe strain.

The situation in Île-de-France hospitals is tense, especially in intensive care units where the number of people admitted could reach 1,600 to 2,000 by the beginning of April, against 1,300 today, according to the reports. projections from the Regional Health Agency (ARS).

To cope with this third wave, Paris hospitals have decided to call on other arms.

AP-HP has launched an accelerated training program for nurses and nursing students, so that they can assist in intensive care units.

These training courses are given at Campus Picpus, the AP-HP training center, in the 12th arrondissement of Paris.

These trainings only last three days, the time to learn the basics of resuscitation.

"

The proposed course includes two days of theory and one day of treatment in a simulated situation,

"

AP-HP

explains to

.

It deals with different themes: the specificities of the intensive care environment, key concepts in cardiac and pulmonary anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology, etc.

These nurses come from the anesthesia services whose activity is at a standstill while the Île-de-France will increase deprogramming to increase its number of intensive care beds.

Others are still students.

According to France Inter, they did not volunteer, but received a summons by email.

“In almost a year, we have trained 800 people.

This time, it's more than 1000 to train in three weeks!

"

Christophe Flageul at France Inter

Since April, Paris hospitals "

have continuously organized rapid training courses for nurses who come as reinforcements to professionals experienced in intensive care,

.

However, in recent weeks, a boost has been given: “

in almost a year, we have trained 800 people.

This time, it is more than 1000 people to be trained in three weeks

”explains Christophe Flageul, the pedagogical manager at Campus Picpus, in the France Inter report.

He explains that this acceleration is recent.

A week ago, we received a call from the general direction of Public Assistance telling us that we had to mobilize all the staff of 3rd year nursing students to meet the needs, he

says.

.

We are in 9 sessions, each time with around 120 trainees

.

The objective is obviously not to replace experienced nurses resuscitators.

"

They come to relieve the seasoned nurses, they will be added to the workforce, they are not intended to replace a hyper experienced holder

," comments the educational manager of the campus.

"

By carrying out certain tasks such as preparing syringes, equipment, washing and dressing, they will allow the most experienced to devote themselves fully to the more technical aspects of the sheave

", he adds.
