The Home Secretary, who considers the Easter weekend to be "high risk", announced that checks will be stepped up

If you do not have a valid reason to travel for the Easter weekend, you may not escape a fine of 135 euros.

Gérald Darmanin, the Minister of the Interior, warned that “intensive controls” were going to be put in place as of Thursday to prevent the departures of residents from confined departments.

A weekend that he himself described as "high risk".

During his press briefing on crime figures in February, the Minister of the Interior recalled that more than 5 million checks have been carried out by the police since December 15.

And in total, 523,000 reports have already been issued.

In detail, on the verbalizations podium, travel offenses are well ahead with 480,664 PV.

This is followed by specific offenses, such as a faulty PCR test (19,525) and offenses relating to prohibited gatherings and meetings (14,835).

The offenses relating to the opening and closing of establishments open to the public represent only 4,194 cases.

In addition, according to the Minister of the Interior, 326 clandestine festive gatherings have been prevented by the police since January 1.

8,000 verbalizations in the 19 confined departments

Referring to last weekend, Gérald Darmanin said that 100,000 checks linked to the curfew had been carried out throughout France, resulting in 17,000 verbalizations.

For the 19 confined departments, 60,000 checks were carried out and resulted in 8,000 verbalizations.

"This is 20% more checks and 25% more verbalizations compared to the previous weekend" underlined the Minister.

As a reminder, travel between regions is prohibited from and to the 19 reconfigured departments except for certain restricted reasons.

They are also limited to 30 km around the home in these departments, again in certain cases only;

they are allowed within a limit of 10 km to walk.

To travel within the rules, two certificates are available: a first certificate lists the authorizations to move during the curfew from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., in force throughout the territory.

A second, for its part, lists the possibilities for confined departments and concerns the 6 am-7 pm time slot.
