Rennes: the mystery Céline Vervaele, the missing woman from the lock

2021-03-30T18:40:31.389Z

Significant resources are being deployed to find this 29-year-old young woman, who disappeared on March 13, whose trace is lost near the river

Bubbles on the surface of the water betray their presence.

Since Monday, under a bright sun, seven gendarmes-divers from Nantes (Loire-Atlantique), Quiberon (Morbihan) and Lézardrieux (Côtes-d'Armor) have probed the river La Vilaine, not far from Roazhon Park in Rennes (Ille-et -Ugly).

It was here, at the Moulin du Comte lock, that a tracking dog detected the last olfactory traces of Céline Vervaele.

This 29-year-old Rennaise, originally from the Vosges, has been missing since Saturday, March 13.

According to her husband, aged 51, the young woman would have left their apartment in the Cleunay district around 5 p.m., without phone or money, after an argument without violence.

Not seeing her return, he had given the alert the next day.

Two days later, the police called for witnesses.

An investigation was opened for "worrying disappearance".

A fight involving firefighters, a drone, a helicopter and tracking dogs has already taken place on March 19.

More than 80 police officers surveyed the Prévalaye sector, a semi-natural area in the heart of the city where Céline liked to walk.

Without success.

Search operations will continue throughout the week.

Against the expansion project of the Stade Rennais training center

For their part, the investigators are studying all the leads.

A week ago, the public prosecutor of Rennes, Philippe Astruc, mentioned in particular the hypothesis of a voluntary disappearance, on the basis of a testimony pending verification.

Without news of Celine, her mother, Sylvie, clings to "the hope that she is in a place, cut off from the world".

This Vosgienne feels totally helpless in the face of the disappearance of her daughter, who has lived far from her for several years.

Before settling in Rennes in 2013, Céline studied in Bordeaux (Gironde) and Angers (Maine-et-Loire).

Holder of a bac + 5 in the environmental field, she had not found a job.

Discreet, "she did not talk about her problems", regrets Sylvie.

His uncle, Christophe, is also worried.

He describes his niece as "a committed girl, an environmentalist who mobilized against the nuclear waste landfill project in Bure in the Meuse".

In Rennes, Céline had found a new hobbyhorse.

She was part of the Prévalaye Safeguarding Collective.

With his companion, they were against the plan to expand the Stade Rennais training center at the expense of this natural area.

Denouncing the artificialization of soils and the attack on biodiversity, they organized a wild planting of 300 trees at the end of January.

United in this fight, Celine and her spouse nevertheless had to face turbulence in their personal lives.

She had recently reconnected with a man

“The last time I saw them, at Christmas, they gave the impression of a quiet couple,” recalls Sylvie.

This was before she found out that her daughter had recently reconnected with a man she had dated several years ago.

Celine was she planning to leave her companion to start a new life?

"She is so nice, I do not understand that she can leave us without news", her mother is in despair.

It measures 1.67 m.
