Huge leak from Facebook: The phone numbers of 533 million Facebook users have been leaked to the net.

The leak was found by Alon Gal, co-founder and chief technology officer at cybercrime intelligence company Hudson Roca.

"The weakness was used on Facebook in May 2019, only at the beginning of 2020 the database started to sell and for a high sum of about 100,000 shekels, at first only a few owned it and apparently used it to make a profit and today one of them decided to leak the database for free," said Gal.

The leak includes the phone numbers of 533 million Facebook users, from 106 countries.

Of these, 32 million from the United States, 11 million from the UK and another 6 million from India.

As mentioned, the details include the users' phone numbers, full name, location, date of birth, biography and in some cases also email addresses.

"The database has been leaked and there is not much users can do, Facebook needs to alert its users to be aware of possible attacks like social engineering, explain why it happened and how it will not happen again," Gal said in a conversation with Walla!

TECH.

It should be noted that the information was leaked as early as 2019, when the attacker tried to sell the database during 2020, and when that failed, he leaked it to everyone on the network.

This is a huge database, and it is not inconceivable that Israeli users are also in it.

The database, which combines complete information, locations, biographies, dates of birth and telephone numbers, may reach attackers who hold existing databases and together will perform a sophisticated crossover.

The information, by itself or in conjunction with other databases, can be used to extract personal information including credit cards, you must exercise extreme caution.

A Facebook statement said: "This is old information that was reported as early as 2019. We found the leak and dealt with it as early as August 2019."
