Eden Elena - the official clip of the Eurovision song (clip: Misha Kaminsky, stills: Ohad Keb)

About a year ago, something fell apart: for the first time in the history of the singing competition born to unite the wounded post-war Europe, the Eurovision Song Contest was canceled.

The exaggerated dresses were stored in warehouses, broken amateurs prepared for themselves a playlist of Eurovision ballads, and the residents of Rotterdam host realized that they would not see the money they demanded for their apartments on airbnb, pig sums even by the absurd standards of Tel Aviv.

All this changes in 2021, with the return of the Eurovision Song Contest to our lives, a bit of escapism in corona-stricken Europe, which is currently suffering from a third wave and restrictions that Israel has already forgotten about.

Eden Elena was chosen to represent Israel this year as well and will take the stage to the biggest music stage in the world in the first semi-final to be held on May 18.

After the expulsion of Belarus from the competition due to the submission of a political song that does not meet the rules of the competition, 16 participants remained in this semi-final.

Meaning: There are only 15 competitors for Eden, and in order to get in the top ten, she has to skip over only six countries.

Sounds simple?

Let's dive together into the depths of the three fateful minutes of the competition and try to understand together what the chances are of reaching the Eurovision final on Saturday 22 May.

(Data on qualifying for the final, top 10, wins and achievements refer to Eurovision from 2008 onwards, when the two semi-final method was presented. The songs in the order of appearance in the first semi-final).

Eden Elena has upgraded the song - and the world is excited: "We are in love, it will reach the top 10!"

Lithuania - The Roop - Discoteque

Finals: 7/12 - 58.3%

Highest: Ninth place (2016)

The band The Roop won was chosen to represent Lithuania last year after winning in the pre-Lithuanian.

Unlike Aden, they were not automatically selected to reach the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest, but were forced to make it through the local pre-season again, and they did so as hugely as possible.

If last year they were candidates for the victory of the year it seems less of an achievement there, but it seems that their place in the final is guaranteed with a not bad place in the top ten, and even the betting agencies think so.

Slovenia - Ana Soklič - Amen

Finals: 5/12 - 41.7%

Highest: 13th place (2011)

Anna Soklic, who was supposed to represent Slovenia last year, also received a ticket to Eurovision 2021. The Slavic country participating in the 1993 competition has never threatened the top of the table and it does not seem to That will change this year.

The words seem to have been written by an automatic Eurovision cliché generator (artist, hallelujah, We're glorious) and it does not seem that Eden has anything to fear from the Slovenes, whose betting agencies rank last in the semi-finals.

By the way, at this year's Eurovision there are two songs called Artist, by Slovenia and by Austria.

Whose best artist?

Of Liora.

Russia - Manizha - Russian Woman

Finals: 10/11 - 90.9%

Top 10: Seven times (5 in Top 3)

Highest: Winning (2008) The

cool noise that was supposed to represent Russia last year became a less pleasant noise to the ear at Eurovision 2021. It is not really possible to understand when Manija She sings in Russian and when in English, and quite a few people seem to confuse "up-to-date" with "what is this noise."

Anyway, when did "Up-to-Date" become the solder of at least three different songs?

The betting agencies are not very impressed beyond the center of the table, but it seems that this song will reach the final for sure and has already garnered more than 7 million views on Eurovision YouTube.

And there is even an Israeli angle here.

Sweden - Tusse - Voices

Finals: 11/12 - 91.7%

Top 10: Eight times

Highest: Winning (2012, 2015)

When it comes to producing a proper Eurovision, it seems that the Swedes have already forgotten what "here" will never learn.

True, here too there are clichés galore, and true, this song also sounds like it was already like that, but the song somehow does manage to touch the right places.

This year, too, Sweden will reach the final and this time, too, they will finish in a good place in the top ten, unfortunately Eden and the Israeli team cannot count on a Scandinavian defeat in this case.

Australia - Montaigne - Technicolor

Finals: 5/5 - 100%

Top 10: Four times

Highest: Second place (2016)

Australia is one of the countries that decided to send the same singer who was supposed to be sent to the Eurovision Song Contest last year.

I’ve seen a Eurovision or two in my life, but this time I really have no idea what the Australians are trying to achieve in the competition.

Perhaps the first historic illegal immigration since joining Europe?

The betting agencies rank Australia below Israel in the first semi-final, no doubt this is a much less good song than Set Me Free, but something in me finds it hard to believe that they will let Australia stay in the semi-finals.

Northern Macedonia - Vasil - Here I Stand

Finals: 2/12 - 16.7%

Highest: 7th place (2019, Tel Aviv - first place among the judges)

If we have already mentioned clichés, then in northern Macedonia they took it in the direction of Disney.

The problem is that Disney would also ignore this song.

The betting agencies rank him in the penultimate place in the chances of qualifying from the first semi-final, and you have no real reason to click on this video.

Ireland - Lesley Roy - Maps

Finals: 5/12 - 41.7%

Highest: 8th place (2011)

Last place in the semifinals in Tel Aviv, last place in the final 2013.

Ireland, formerly of the Eurovision Powerhouse and currently the bottom wizard, sends a song that for the first time in years I can listen to from beginning to end and not Just for writing this column.

The so-called - I did not hate it.

Is that enough to qualify for the finals?

When Eurovision fans rate the song at the bottom and the betting agencies do not give Leslie a chance to reach the final, it seems not.

Eden can write another song that she can easily get around.

Cyprus - Elena Tsagrinou - El Diablo

Finals: 7/11 - 63.6% - Holds a streak of five finals in recent years.

Highest: Second place (2018)

Cyprus is a country devoid of any national pride at the Eurovision Song Contest.

After being represented in 2018 and 2019 by Greek citizens born in Albania and Georgia respectively, in 2020 a German-born singer son of a Greek mother and an American father was to be sent.

This year they went back to looking for representatives in Greece, took some Lady Gaga songs, seasoned Brita Ora, and sent another generic pop song instead of the Mediterranean level.

Norway - TIX - Falling Angel

Finals: 10/12 - 83.3%

Highest: Winning (2009), first place in the audience vote in 2019 in Tel Aviv,

last place in 2012.

Remember Keino, the band that won first place in the audience votes at the Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv and received 10 points from viewers in Israel, but fell in the assassination carried out by the judges who do not deserve to engage in music for the rest of their lives?

This year, too, they tried their luck in the Norwegian pre-season, and to their shock and disappointment finished in second place.

What won?

This exaggerated thing.

If you close your teeth, a rather reasonable song is hidden here.

But the whole show is exaggerated with a show that sums up all the bad in the modern Eurovision.

According to the betting agencies this song in the final, although Eden is much better than him.

Croatia - Albina - Tick-Tock

Finals: 4/10 - 40%

Highest: 13th place (2017) The

Croats dumped the singer with the boring 2020 ballad and replaced it with an even cheaper pop song than the costumes you bought for children with express.

When Albina screams during the song Oh No I agree with her, when she shouts Don't Go too late, I left.

Eden is totally supposed to get around this old-fashioned thing.

Belgium - Hooverphonic - The Wrong Place

Finals: 5/12 - 41.7%

Top 10: Four times.

Highest: Fourth place (2015, 2017) The

great Huberfonic who have already performed in Israel were supposed to represent Belgium already last year.

In the year that has passed since then, they broke up with the soloist who was supposed to perform with them at Eurovision 2020 and brought back Geika Arnert, the mythological soloist who performed with the band between 1998-2008.

During this time the band was a huge success with the hit Mad About You and it is exciting to see such a singer on the competition stage.

According to the betting agencies Belgium is very borderline in the chances of advancing to the final, although it is entirely up to Belgium to advance.

Israel - Eden Alone - Set Me Free

Finals: 8/12 - 66.7%

Top 10: Three times.

Highest: First Place (2018)

What can we say after what these international amateurs have already said?

While the song has undergone a significant upgrade since the all-too-pale transmitter of his choice, the betting agencies are still unimpressed and rank Set Me Free in 12th place in the chances of immigration.

Refining has a chance but is very borderline.

The devout amateurs will sing the mantra "it all depends on a live show" and will not forget to mention that even Elani Fourier's Fuego was not recited by anyone until the rehearsals began.

So will Israel be one of the few countries to make it to the Eurovision final for the sixth time in a row, or will it stay in the semi-finals this time?

In less than a month and a half we will know.

Romania - Roxen - Amnesia

Finals: 9/11 - 81.8% - in the last two years has not reached the finals after a streak of nine finals.

Highest: Third place (2010)

to 2017 If you had to put your life on the question "Will Romania advance to the final", it would have been a safe bet.

But in the last two Eurovisions the wheel has turned and Romanian television's poor choices have flown to the semi-finals, and rightly so.

Last year the Romanians chose a young singer on an internal committee and this year it was decided to send her again with a song that will make you proud of your Romanian passport, her place in the final guaranteed.

Azerbaijan - Efendi - Mata Hari

Finals: Finals: 11/12 - 91.7%

Top 10: Six times

highest: Winning (2011)

Azerbaijan also sends the same singer who was supposed to dance at Eurovision 2020. And just like last year, this time too the competition fans get everything they Lovers - Cheap Ethnic Pop Cheap Cheap Cheap, the kind of songs that have no right to exist beyond the competition.

This song will make it to the finals and Eden has no chance of taking its place.

Ukraine - Go_A - SHUM

Finals: 10/10 - 100%

Highest: Winning (2016)

Anyone who followed my column last year revealed how much I hated the song this band sent last year.

This year, too, they send a noise that can be annoying, but for some reason I find that there is a section and uniqueness here, in contrast to the cheap Azerbaijan.

It seems that this song will maintain 100% success in qualifying for Ukraine's Eurovision final.

Malta - Destiny - Je Me Casse

Finals: 6/12 - 50%

Highest: Place 8 (2013)

She is not yet 19 years old and Destiny already looks like Mama from some gospel church.

Just like TOY, this song also talks about female empowerment and positive body image even if you are not a model.

Just like Neta Barzilai, Destiny also stars at the top of the rankings.

According to the betting agencies, next year we will travel to Volta for the first time in the history of the Eurovision Song Contest.

So Israel in the final or not?

Among the countries that can be put the money on for sure in the final are Malta, Sweden, Cyprus, Lithuania, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Romania, and Russia.

These are eight countries that are hard to believe will find themselves packing back home on Wednesday morning after the semi-finals.

If you bet on Ireland, Slovenia, Macedonia, and Croatia to actually pack, you probably won't lose much.

That leaves us with Norway, Belgium, Australia, and Israel battling for the remaining two tickets.

Good sound performance and overwhelming directing may improve the chances.

If we look at the dry statistics - it is in our favor.

Of the 16 countries competing for the ten tickets to the grand final, Israel is ranked eighth in the Eurovision final.

We will of course be patriots throughout Eden's journey to Rotterdam, and we will wish her to eat the hat.

1.Ukraine - 100%

2.Australia - 100%

3.Sweden - 91.7%

4.Azerbaijan - 91.7%

5.Russia - 90.9%

6.Norway - 83.3%

7.Romania - 81.8%

8.Israel - 66.7%

9. Cyprus - 63.6%

10. Lithuania - 58.3%

11. Malta - 50%

12.Belgium - 41.7%

13.Ireland - 41.7%

14.Slovenia - 41.7%

15.Croatia - 40%

16.Northern Macedonia - 16.7%
