The high school student assaulted Thursday on leaving his high school by another student died in the evening this Friday, said the mayor of Mtsamboro.

Miki, 17, was about to board the bus that brought him home Thursday afternoon, leaving high school in Mtsangadoua, north of Mayotte, when another teenager attacked him with scissors.

Injured to the lungs, neck and head, the high school student was evacuated by helicopter to the Mayotte Hospital Center (CHM) in Mamoudzou, but he died in the early evening this Friday, says Laïthidine Ben Saïd, mayor of Mtsamboro, village of the victim.

The alleged perpetrator, a student from the same school, was apprehended.

As soon as the family and residents of Mtsamboro learned of his state of health, roadblocks were erected in the locality.

A crisis meeting took place during the day to try to calm the anger of the inhabitants, in the presence of the mayor of the town, elected officials from neighboring villages, officials of the gendarmerie, the secretary general of the prefecture and the rector of Mayotte, Gilles Halbout.

The parents of the students called in particular for the repair of the fence, the reinforcement of the security personnel and psychological support.

Common assaults

This attack is the third of the week in high schools in Mayotte, where these tragedies are common, despite the presence of gendarmes, police or security teams.

In 2018, it was following the incursion of about fifty young people at the Eiffel high school in Kahani that the Mahorais took to the streets to demonstrate against insecurity.

The movement lasted three months, completely paralyzing this island in the Indian Ocean which has just celebrated the tenth anniversary of its accession to the status of a department.
