Murder of Aurélie Vaquier: Samire L., a man with an unstable course who has become a number one suspect

Samire L., indicted Friday, April 9 for aggravated murder two days after the discovery of the body of his companion Aurélie Vaquier, buried under concrete at their home, remained silent, throughout his custody, on what could pass between them in the commercial premises which served as their apartment in Bédarieux (Hérault).

During the various hearings, he denied any involvement in the death of the 38-year-old young woman and explained that someone could very well have entered this room to deposit the body.

The results of the autopsy have made it possible to determine with almost certainty that the decomposed body discovered on Wednesday is indeed that of Aurélie.

Two tattoos, including that of the name of one of the young woman's cats on the wrist, as well as the examination of the dental record, the jewelry and a piercing, allow this conclusion to be reached.

The two forensic scientists in Montpellier could not determine with certainty the causes of death.

"But they provided two hypotheses which will remain secret for the interest of the investigation," Béziers public prosecutor Raphaël Balland said on Friday.

No visible lesion clearly explains the death, he continued, and the death could go back to the date of January 28, provided by the companion as being that of the last sign of life of the young woman.

The line of defense presented by Samire L. stunned Aurélie's entourage.

“We are waiting for a confession.

We want to know and understand what may have happened at the apartment.

We will never let go.

I am not overly surprised at the attitude of the alleged murderer.

Throughout the research period, he practically never stopped lying to us, ”reacted Jérémy Vaquier, 36, Aurélie's brother, very combative since February 23 to try to find the trace of this sister described as bright and caring.

“Yes, we are stunned,” adds Nathalie, a close neighbor of the couple, shocked.

In February, after Aurélie disappeared, when we went to their room with Samire, we even walked on the platform where Aurélie's body was found and which served as a small stage installed on the left on the way home.

You could smell a weird smell, ”she recalls.

She had met Samire when he rented a room with Aurélie in July 2020, before getting into a relationship with the latter in the month of August.

Aurélie Vaquier had been missing since the end of January.

“Samire then appeared to us as a calm, composed, discreet boy.

He spoke softly.

We dined together regularly.

I cooked for him.

I gave him a kiss, she says.

In November, however, we discovered another Samire, much more assertive, when he shot a video of indignation with his cellphone in the Carrefour Market in Mèze, ”continues Nathalie.

That day, November 9, Aurélie and Samire show up at the cash desk after 6 p.m. with a pack of gluten-free beers.

The cashier refuses to cash their purchase.

Samire then films the dispute.

We see him in the images of the video parading in the supermarket, his mouth uncovered with a mask on his forehead and another under his chin and defying the security guards and the police.

“Basically, we don't really know who he is,” adds someone close to Aurélie.

Different professions, several convictions

When Samire L. entered Aurélie's life in the summer of 2020, he was in the region to do a two-month season in a restaurant near Marseillan.

Before?

He had just finished another season in Switzerland, where he was convicted twice for traffic offenses and theft.

Previously, he had been a soldier in the administrative services, then sentenced to three months in prison in Marseille, for abandoning his post.

Still married, he is in the process of divorce from the mother of his two children, aged 9 and 4, the youngest of whom is autistic.

Samire L. is originally from the country of Gex (Ain), where he worked in various professions: market salesman, delivery man, etc.

“My client explained himself to the gendarmes in custody.

He will soon be summoned before the investigating judge, ”said his lawyer, Me Mathieu Montfort, this Friday evening, who did not wish to comment further on the position of the indicted, who was imprisoned.

On Wednesday, a search carried out by investigators from the research section of the Montpellier gendarmerie had helped unravel the mystery of Aurélie's sudden disappearance.

“In an area under construction, the investigators were interested in a small stone and wooden platform.

This small platform was covered with many boxes containing different objects, themselves placed on a mattress, then a carpet, then a double-thickness laminate floor, explained Friday the public prosecutor of Béziers.

And under this floor, they discovered a sort of concrete sarcophagus located in the center of this platform.

The piercing of this sarcophagus provoked a strong reaction from the search dogs of the national canine investigation group of the national gendarmerie.
