With the Grandland X, Opel continues the electrified offensive, bringing to market its first plug-in hybrid, one of the most powerful cars of the lightning house.

    Aesthetically, the differences between the thermal version and the hybrid version with plug are almost imperceptible.

Starting with the 19 "two-tone alloy wheels with diamond finish, passing through the double refueling door: small details, such as the Hybrid4 lettering on the rear that indicate its belonging to the 'green' sphere.

The cockpit is neat and airy: the comfortable seats, especially the driver's seat, are certified by the German AGR.

    Also new is the Opel Connect telematics service which offers traffic information, remote control of the car status via app (including the door opening and closing function, setting and activation of the "climate", charging management ), direct connection to roadside assistance and emergency call, in addition to the standard Navi 5.0 IntelliLink multimedia system, capable of finding the fastest routes to charging stations.

    What changes compared to the traditional 'thermal' versions is the trunk, which loses 124 liters of minimum capacity compared to that of the versions with only the internal combustion engine, due to the presence of the rear electric motor.

    As with the Peugeot 3008 Hybrid 4 and DS 7 Crossback E-Tense cousins, the new Grandland X 1.6 Hybrid4 AWD AT8 is equipped with a hybrid system consisting of a 200 HP four-cylinder turbo petrol engine under the front hood, flanked by two engines electric, for a total power of 299 HP.

The front one, with 110 hp, is housed in the eight-speed automatic gearbox, and transfers the power to the front wheels, alone or in combination with the 1.6 in hybrid operation.

The 113 HP rear one, on the other hand, is integrated into the differential and moves the wheels behind, making traction integral in situations where greater "grip" is required.

    Those behind the wheel can choose between four driving programs, depending on the type of route to be tackled: electric, to take advantage of the two current motors (you can reach up to 135 km / h with a full electric range of about 50 km);

hybrid, which makes the 1.6 interact with the electric units;

all-wheel drive, for low-grip terrain, and finally Sport, to take advantage of all the 299 HP made available to this SUV.

    The Grandland X is also equipped with the e-Save function which allows the energy stored in the high-voltage battery to be stored for later use, for example to drive in areas where access is only allowed to electric cars.

In addition, the SUV made in Eisenach also has the B (Brake) mode reserved for electrified models, capable of making energy recovery even more substantial: it is activated directly from the gear lever and supports this prerogative in the form of an action equal to the effect of the engine brake on descent.

    We had the opportunity to test this spacious and versatile SUV in the chaos of the city where we had the opportunity to appreciate its silence in electric mode, for the benefit of a relaxed drive.

By alternating the different driving modes it was possible, in just city routes, to test the driving assistance systems, very reactive and precise - convenient for driving on the motorway - lane maintenance and automatic cruise control to maintain distance from the vehicle that comes before.

The Opel Grandland X lighting system is also noteworthy, which at the front features full LED adaptive forward lighting, a high-tech system that adapts the light beam to the specific situation to ensure optimal vision at all times.

    This version is on sale for € 46,900 in a single version.

The list has recently been enriched with the two-wheel drive version, with 224 HP, on sale for 42,550 euros.
