"Desperados III" is the best recent German video game, that was decided by the jury of the German Computer Game Award (DCP).
The creators of the game from the Mimimi Games studio in Munich can now look forward to 140,000 euros in prize money.
They owe 40,000 euros of this to a second award, namely that of "Studio of the Year".
"Desperados III" is based in the Wild West and in June 2020 revived the "Desperados" series of games popular in the noughties, backed by the German company Spellbound Entertainment at the time.
Before “Desperados III”, Mimimi Games had already made an international name for itself as a developer studio for real-time tactical games with “Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun”.
In the course of the computer game award, the studio hit the headlines in 2017 after refusing to accept an award for "Shadow Tactics" with reference to possible discrepancies in the work of the main jury (more on this here).
As in the previous year, the computer game prize was also awarded in 2021 in the form of an online gala, which this time was led by Barbara Schöneberger and Uke Bosse.
There were prizes endowed with up to 60,000 euros for the “Best Debut” and the “Best Prototype”.
In those categories, the indie game »Dorfromantik« by Toukana Interactive and »Passing By« prevailed.
Behind »Passing By«, which can be played for free on PC and Mac, are the four developers Hannah Kümmel, Jan Milosch, Marius Mühleck and Ilona Treml.

»Dorfromantik« is also a double winner
"Dorfromantik" also won a second prize in the "Best Game Design" category.
In the past few weeks, the development game from Berlin had aroused people standing up well beyond Germany as a chart topper on the Steam gaming platform.
Other games whose creators can look forward to fame and money this year are "Cloudpunk", "Worlds of Materials", "Polarized!" And "Suzerain".
You can find a test of the latter political game here.
In the “Best Innovation and Technology” category, the “Holoride” project, which relies on virtual reality experiences while driving, prevailed.
A special prize from the jury went to a digital exhibition stand called Indie Arena Booth Online 2020. Gnu was chosen as the winner of the audience award "Player of the Year" on the basis of an online vote.
The video maker recently cracked the one million subscriber mark on YouTube.
80,000 euros for "El Hijo - A Wild West Tale"
"Desperados III" was not the only Wild West game with an award on Tuesday evening.
In the “Best Family Game” category, “El Hijo - A Wild West Tale” won, a work that the developers at Honig Studios and Quantumfrog are staging as a “Spaghetti Western Stealth Game”.
The family game award was endowed with 80,000 euros.
Success at the German Computer Game Prize is one of several ways for German game companies to collect money for future game productions. Seen in this way, the Computer Game Prize is also a funding instrument.
It is organized by the Federal Government, which is represented by the State Minister for Digitization and the Federal Ministry for Transport and Digital Infrastructure, as well as the industry association game.
The Digital Game Culture Foundation and the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg also sponsor the award ceremony, which is preceded by the work of several specialist juries and a main jury.
In most of the categories, only games can be submitted and nominated that were mainly developed in Germany.
