The »Angell« e-bike in the test: the navibrator

2021-04-18T16:18:26.087Z

With the French e-bike Angell, the handlebars tremble when the driver has to turn. The designer bike has even more exciting electronic extras, but sometimes they are more confusing than helpful.

Nothing happens ... The one time when something has to happen ... Well, we'll do it again.

Simply get on and off you can forget about the Angell-Bike. Then you get a lot of attention. There is an alarm system in the bike and the French manufacturer promises that it is the safest e-bike on the market. There are, for example, indicators on the left and right. They're in the handlebars here, like in a car. There is a headlight built into the front of the handlebar. Also very practical, because it also lights up in the curve. I can control all of this conveniently using buttons on the handlebars, which I can also assign individually via the app. There are taillights that are built into the battery. So there are almost all kinds of toys that you know from the car. However, despite the alarm system, it is important: You shouldn't do without the lock.

That stupid alarm system!

Why doesn't it work?

How far can i go

It works every time. And exactly when you need it ...

Yes, riding, which is really exciting, is almost a minor matter with a bike.

According to the manufacturer, 70 percent of the bike is software.

But it's going surprisingly well.

The Tektro disc brakes at the front and rear actually grip pretty well.

There is a small disadvantage: the bike is very, very light.

It has an aluminum frame and a carbon fork.

But it drives relatively hard.

It's not really comfortable, especially on cobblestones.

But it is super manoeuvrable.

It really is a very, very good city bike.

I can remove the battery at the back.

The alarm system works anyway.

There is a small built-in battery.

Every time it doesn't have to work right away, it works ...

There are four driving modes: Free, I have to pedal myself.

Eco, Dry and Fast.

In Eco, the bike provides the least support.

According to the manufacturer, you can travel 90 km with one battery charge in Fast mode, which pushes the most, it can travel 40 to 50 km.

So a normal commute will definitely do it.

Then you can recharge at home in the evening.

We are on the wrong side.

Interesting.

The navigation system works very easily via the smartphone app. I basically enter the destination on my smartphone. Then he says: Man, it'll take you a quarter of an hour. 1.6 km. Then I click Go. And if I have to turn right here, the right handlebar grip will vibrate. When I have to turn left, the left handlebar grip vibrates. I can always keep my hands on the handlebars. This is of course simply a safety factor. But it doesn't always work properly. So, especially in parks or on bike paths that are separated from the street, the navigation system often loses its orientation and then cannot find the right path again. When I actually have this navigation system and still have to stop at all three intersections to look at my cell phone, then it's kind of annoying.

What should we think of the bike now?

The bike drives well.

It is definitely a decent, manoeuvrable city e-bike at the same time the software features are just a nice extra and they have the advantage that they can be improved.

With an update from the manufacturer, you can always add a little more.

The question is, of course, what does the fun cost?

The bike in the variant, that is the version for people between 1.65 and 1.95, costs 2860 euros.

That's a lot of money at first, but it's below the average price that was paid for an e-bike in Germany last year.

That was 2975 euros, which means that overall it is definitely a decent e-bike for a normal price with a super eye-catching, futuristic design.

You just have to know for yourself whether you like it.

You just forget it every time: When you come to your cool bike in front of the ice cream parlor, think you're going to unlock it, make a cool appearance, forget it and everyone looks at you like a fool with your screeching bike. But practically, you really can't say anything.
