The range of Porsche's first fully electric vehicle is extended.

The Taycan Rwd arrives on the market, with a single engine instead of two, and rear-wheel drive instead of integral.

Presented last January and in dealerships from March at a price of 86,000 euros, it joins its bigger sisters: the Taycan Turbo S, the Taycan Turbo and the Taycan 4S.

We tried it during an average drive of over 100km that took us from the capital to the Castelli Romani Park: a journey dotted with hill roads, long straight stretches and crossings of inhabited centers that allowed us to test both performance that the autonomy of the car. The Taycan, in fact, can be fitted with two types of batteries: with the Performance Battery as standard, the new entry model of the range delivers up to 300 kW (408 HP) in overboost mode with Launch Control function. While with the Performance Battery Plus, available on request, the power increases up to 350 kW (476 hp). Rated power is 240 kW (326 hp) or 280 kW (380 hp) respectively.

The guaranteed driving range, according to the WLTP homologation procedure, is up to 431 or 484 kilometers, respectively. Starting with a range of 370km, at the end of our test drive the on-board computer still reported a distance of 240km.

The Taycan Rwd certainly does not have the performance of its bigger sisters, but it still accelerates from zero to 100 km / h in 5.4 seconds, regardless of the battery used. The maximum speed is self-limited to 230 km / h in both configurations, while the maximum charge capacity reaches up to 225 kW (with Performance Battery) or 270 kW (with Performance Battery Plus). This means that both batteries can be charged from 5 to 80% capacity in 22.5 minutes, and that in just five minutes you build up the energy needed to drive another 100 kilometers. Worthy of note is the Plug & Charge function which allows you to top up and the related payments without the need for cards or an app. As soon as the charging cable is connected, the Taycan establishes encrypted communication with the Plug & Charge compatible charging station. The top-up process starts automatically and payments are also processed automatically.

Comfortable and spacious (4.96x1.97x1.39 meters), the Taycan is offered as standard with a partially leather interior and comfort seats with eight-way electric adjustment. The space available for luggage is also capacious for a sports car like this. There are two compartments: a front one with a capacity of 84 liters, and a rear one of 407 liters.

"The marketing of the Taycan is going well, considering that this new Porsche was launched at the beginning of the pandemic - said Venceslas Monizini, Pr Manager of Porsche Italy -. Globally in 2020 we delivered more than 20 thousand Taycans. In Italy it has risen in fourth place in the ranking of the best-selling Porsches after Macan, Cayenne and 911.

But in 2021 - added Monzini - we will have other news. At the end of May the Taycan 4 Cross Turismo will arrive in dealerships and then we recently presented the 992 Gt3. But certainly an important novelty will be the inauguration at the beginning of July of the Porsche Experience Center Italia in Franciacorta. It will be - he concludes - the eighth of its kind in the world after those of Leipzig, Silverstone, Atlanta, Le Mans, Los Angeles, Shanghai and Hockenheim and the largest, with an investment of over 26 million euros ".
