Cadillac continues to disperse its representatives in every team in which the Europeans play with the same trick. More armature, engine, dimensions and less money. Here too with the XT6 she is trying her luck

First test: Cadillac XT6

Cadillac completes its crossover array with the XT6, which joins the 7-seater E-SUV group.

This group has recently expanded and we went north to see what the new Cadillac gives for NIS 415,000?

Even in an era of European dominance in the premium category and when the world thinks ‘electricity and autonomy’, the Cadillac brand retains a nostalgic emotional value.

The brand's roots are etched in a history of over 100 years, with glorious names associated with it;

Starting with Bruce Springsteen and Elvis Presley, and ending with the presidents of the United States and the secret service men leaping from black Cadillac escalades.

Contrary to the image of yesteryear, Cadillac is no longer content with producing luxurious and swaying frigates;

The change began long ago with the Cadillac ATS showcasing surprisingly high dynamic capabilities, and it continues to this day.

The capabilities are enchanted in the sedan models for the sporty CT family but the improvement is also noticeable in more family models, like the XT series before us;

XT4 and XT5 are well known to us, and XT6 is just now entering the official marketing phase in Israel.

The side is well carved, the large wheels are placed in the corners of the body.

The optional side steps give the Cadillac a low, slender appearance (Photo: Dudi Moskowitz)

Sardine or whale?

The American market is saturated with enlarged cars that do not come to Israel, but here, the Cadillac XT6 is considered a crossover that competes with the top in the category;

Above it are the new Audi Q7, Mercedes GLE, Volvo XC90, below it the new Ford Explorer, Hyundai Paliside and Subaru Evoltis.

Both the Infiniti QX60 and Lexus RX7 are fighting for the same market segment so we have a relatively large crossover group here, which generates hundreds of sales a year.

The gaps are mainly expressed in the branding, refinement and sense of premium items - and in the very large price gaps, of course.

And starting in November, we will also see here the Tesla Model X all-electric with seven seats.

The Cadillac brand enjoys a good image, and in its name still rings luxury (Photo: Dudi Moskowitz)

The Cadillac XT6 is based on the XT5 we have tested before;

The 6-seater body has been lengthened by 23 inches at the rear and this allows for the installation of a third, spacious row of seats.

With 5.04 feet of bumper to bumper and a width of 196 inches, the Cadillac XT6 has a very serious arrival effect.

These are not only the XXXL dimensions but mainly the square and defiant shape;

The rear window is upright to accommodate seats 6 and 7, the bow is vertical and towering.

Many customers will love the extroverted and forceful performance but for the personal poor, the Americans have gone one step too far here.

The XT6 has lost the dynamic look we loved in the XT5, the 6 a bit awkward with the exaggerated air intakes (some fake) in the front.

The elongated buttocks give it a less dynamic look, and I must point out - the side steps (paid option) of the test vehicle visually lower it and give it a relatively clumsy and awkward look;

Without the stairs it looks better, less station wagon and more crossover.

The interior design is not unique but the human engineering is good, the indulgence is complete (Photo: Dudi Moskowitz)

American living room

The large dimensions and vertical sides give the XT6 excellent interior space;

There is plenty of space in the two rows of front seats, and the third row also provides decent seating for two average-sized adults;

It's not home to NBA players, but neither is it a crowded space.

The front seats are spacious and electrified, heated and cooled.

It is easy to find a good sitting position, but do not expect meticulous ergonomic support;

We're here on the pampering side of American Comfort.

The second row of seats moves back and forth, to provide proper space for those sitting in the back (Photo: Dudi Moskowitz)

The interior design is quite routine. Everything is large and spacious, but there is no 'premium' sophistication here, nor are there high materials. Leather upholstery is less pleasant and fine than is customary with European competitors; Forgive me my vegetarian friends but it could be the difference between the cattle herds from Nebraska, and those of the Tyrolean region. I did not like the completely synthetic wood veneer, and the lack of sense of luxury required by the brand name and XT6 dimensions.

The size of the main touchscreen is relatively modest, only 8-inches; But it is clear and clear to operate, backed by physical switches that allow intuitive operation of the air conditioning and sound systems. The main indicators are analog, not terrible. A small dial between the front seats provides another way to operate the essential systems, very nice. The Cadillac is equipped with a sophisticated camera system that helps maneuver the oversized vehicle, a camera-based interior mirror (one of the best available), automatic parking and more treats. There is full connectivity to Android and Apple.

An array of 360-degree cameras presents an excellent image of the vehicle and its surroundings.

The space in the three rows of seats is good and spacious, the rear folds forward at the push of a button, the center row moves back and forth.

In a 7-seater configuration you are left with a trunk with a volume of 357 liters, not enough for a family trip;

Fold the back seats and you get a huge 1,220-liter hangar, enough to load everything you need for a family vacation or moving house.

Europe or America?

The cabin of the Cadillac XT6 made me think about the meaning of the terms "quality", "premium", "value for money" and "sophistication".

The American cabin fulfills every functional need, and it inspires an atmosphere of quality and pampering.

For those who come from more popular categories or from the Eastern world (Japan, Korea) it is enough, above and beyond.

For those who come from the European premium districts, it is less impressive - the functionality is full but lacks in the latest polishing Cadillac, one born from fine raw materials for appearance and touch, and from meticulous finishing work.

Everything is spacious, electrified, heated and cool, but the upholstery and upholstery materials are not at the level of the leading Europeans (Photo: Dudi Moskowitz)

On the other hand, the Cadillac XT6 costs about NIS 200,000 less than its Q7 in size, and is considered a benchmark in the premium crossover division.

Is it worth paying such a big gap for German refinement?

For dynamic benefits that most customers will not notice, in terms of engine performance and vehicle behavior?

For a keychain with four Audi rings?

These are questions I have no answer to, everyone has a different look at the subject.

The fact is that in the first quarter of 2021 Audi sold 71 Q7, Volvo sold 37 XC90, and Jaguar sold 49 XT6.

The official marketing of the XT6 is only just beginning and I have no doubt that more customers will be chosen to save NIS 200,000 to get a very similar vehicle in the specification, with the positive image being built for the American brand.

As already stated, there is room for everyone.

The cherry orchards in ruby gave a nice background to the white-pearl hue of the Cadillac (Photo: Dudi Moskowitz)

To the cherry blossoms

The cherry fruit will only ripen in mid-June, but the cherry blossom is now at its peak.

To see it, we set up "Wise Self-Picking Ruby" in Wise, where you will find cherries and berries, and we sailed to the Golan Heights.

Moshav Odem is a kind of eternal 'abroad', and the level is still green and fresh.

The ride on Route 6 and the climb to the level gave us a good feel about the white Cadillac capabilities.

The XT6 comes with a 3.6 liter 310 horsepower engine, you will not get the 2.0 liter turbo here and it's good that way.

Diesel, hybrid?

Not with us.

The 9-speed gearbox has a long transmission ratio, at 130 km / h the engine beats at less than 2,000 rpm.

Air intakes occupy most of the front space.

The LED headlights are thin, but powerful (Photo: Dudi Moskowitz)

The atmospheric 3.6 engine is very much in keeping with the character of the Cadillac;

It is strong and smooth, provides a calm cruise for long distances, suitable for congested Israeli roads.

Pressing the pedal accelerates us to 100 km / h in 7.0 seconds, which is impressive for such a whale. Of a V6 that knows how to disconnect two pistons and a box with a long transmission ratio, took us about 12 kilometers per liter, on the way north. "L, that's not surprising either.

The rear seats are spacious, a bit low.

Electric folding (Photo: Dudi Moskowitz)

The test vehicle came in a premium-luxury finish level, with standard suspensions;

At the 'Sport' finish level which exceeds 440,000 you will also get adaptive suspensions that improve the quality of the damping.

With a curb weight of 2,100 kilograms and relatively soft suspensions, the XT6 does not encourage aggressive driving and tire sharpening;

You can flow with it fast but do not look for the driving joy of European competitors, we are back to the point ... The comfort of driving out of town is definitely good, although a wavy road may shake the chassis.

The Cadillac is less comfortable on urban hazards, asphalt rips and battalions penetrating into the chassis.

The damping ability of the suspensions is good, but the 20-inch rims do not allow full damping.

In the US, the XT6 is also sold with smaller rims, which improve ride comfort.

You can choose from four driving modes: touring, snow, terrain, sports.

The switch affects gear shift timing, traction control and steering, but don’t expect dramatic changes.

The 4X4's propulsion also has no exaggerated pretensions, certainly not with limited access angles, dictated by the size of the body and the limited ventral spacing (less than 17 centimeters).

The safety system is full and advanced: 7 airbags, lane departure control and autonomous braking (even when driving backwards, a bit hysterical for my taste), pedestrian detection, dead vehicle detection.

The adaptive cruise control functions excellently and the BOSE sound system may please even the traffic jams of Gush Dan.

A worthy and well-priced competitor

The Cadillac XT6 is a natural and desirable upgrade of the XT5 we loved.

The 6 offers two more seats and a more prominent and extroverted look;

In a market segment where people are looking for visibility and prominence, these are not derogatory words.

The XT6 is a spacious and packed vehicle with contemporary technology, with dynamic capabilities appropriate to its weight and family dimensions.

It does not have the premium refinement and fragrance sought after on the streets of Düsseldorf but on the other hand, it offers high value for money.

It is difficult to define NIS 415 or 440,000 as 'attractive prices', but in the market segment in question, you get a good value for your money, and a brand is quite desirable.

Several dozen XT6 Cadillacs have already been sold in Israel without marketing efforts, and now it has been neatly unveiled;

I guess we are seeing more and more of these cadillacs, entering the market segment that has been developing in our country recently.
