At the beginning we realized: Rotem Israel does not intend to be "the facilitator alongside Avri Gilad"
Her baptism of fire in "The Morning World" alongside the presenter next to her and the provocation enthusiast Avri Gilad was passed by Rotem Israel with honors, but as she knows herself - the league is still long and serving alongside Avri lasts much more than ninety minutes.

Does not intend to be "the one next to him."

The morning shows are a pretty weird TV creature. For most viewers they are a transparent product that comes to mind (if at all) only when there is some scandal going on in them, while others cannot start the morning without them. "The Morning World" Network 13's old morning program does not deviate from this equation, only that unlike the smiling competitor from Rainbow 12 ("Morning News" with Niv Raskin) in "The World" provide a fixed dose of provocations, most as a result of statements by regular presenter Avri Gilad. In an attempt to make a facelift on the show, Rotem Israel - a sports broadcaster and one of the "Ninja Israel" presenters who unexpectedly defected from Keshet 12's prime time and joined Gilad, joined yesterday, an interesting and perhaps brave choice after her predecessor, Tal Metz, was not always satisfied.
It has been many years since I watched the full morning show and it seems that not much has changed in terms of concept - a table full of borax and fruit, a news flash every half hour (the eternal Eli Rachlin) and panels with alternating guests on topics on the agenda.
It seems that Rotem Israel's professional experience from the sports channel in which she was one of the most prominent female characters, serves her here excellently and allows her to hold a long broadcast even when nothing particularly interesting is happening there.
But Israel's professional abilities were not really questioned, the interest in joining the program stemmed mainly from her ability to work with a provocation-loving partner (he will of course deny) as Avery Gilad, probably the most TV personality opposite to that of her previous partner - Niv Raskin.

A brave step.

In an interview she gave ahead of the move to the program, Israel was asked how she would react if, as happened to Metz, she would receive a "flick" from Gilad (when the latter tried to take a book in his hand), Israel responded confidently: "I will give him a flick back." To her delight and to the delight of all, she was not required to examine the actual issue in her first program and it seemed that Gilad was careful to honor her and make sure that each of the interviewees congratulated her on joining. On the other hand, it can already be seen that Israel does not intend to fulfill the title of "facilitator near Gilad." Unlike him, the peak of her career is still ahead of her and she came to "The Morning World" to rub shoulders as an interviewer and not to spend time on screen.
Gilad has been undergoing a process of rapprochement with Judaism for many years, and his previously liberal political views (especially in the days of the "Tonight World" whose name, of course, inspired the name of the program) are becoming increasingly conservative. Needless to say, freedom of expression is a very important value and the right (not to say duty) of every person, certainly a journalist, to express his opinions as he pleases. At the same time, Gilad's opinions are often heard - at least to my ears - on the verge of racism, and yesterday's program was no different in that sense. "There is a smell of Jewish blood in the air," Gilad said at the beginning of the program, referring to the combination (which he made in his head) between the terrible disaster in Meron and the attack at Tapuach Junction. He went on to tell of a guy of Muslim descent who adopted dozens of terminally ill children and treated them on his own and ended up with "This is the Muslim I want next to me." Gilad apparently thinks that Muslims are a shelf product that can be chosen according to the mood. Rotem Israel knew why she was coming in and did not look surprised,She returned to Gilad and gave a counter but did not quarrel with him and kept her composure without breaking the vessels. The question is, of course, how will this dynamic hold up in the long run or when disagreements with Gilad touch on things that hurt her more.
One of the interesting moments on the show (yes, because there are limits to some interpretations of Ayala Hasson and Zvika Yehezkeli can be heard on one broadcast) was a conversation about "tips for a TV relationship" between Israel and Gilad and Udi Segal and Tamar Ish-Shalom, presenters of the channel's main news program.
While Segal and Ish-Shalom demonstrated correctness and sweetness to almost all Americans, Gilad was as usual less polite: "Honestly? It's a bit like getting married by a matchmaker," he said.
In conclusion, her baptism of fire in the morning program Israel passed with honors, but as she knows herself - the league is still long and serving alongside Avery lasts much more than ninety minutes.
