The Ramon Foundation and the Ministry of Science and Technology announced today (Wednesday) at the Peres Center for Peace and Innovation the selected experiments, which will be carried out by Eitan Steve as part of the 'Sky' mission, subject to NASA and Axiom Space approval. The experiments were selected by Inbal Kreis. , Senior in the space industry in Israel, and director of innovation in the missile and space systems division in the aerospace industry.

"Space research is designed to push the boundaries of human knowledge, to try to solve the unresolved, to decipher the hidden. A celestial mission has ignited the imagination of so many talented people sitting here today, including young scientists from schools across the country, behind diverse experiments and planned activities. Fill my time in space. Thanks to the hard and professional work of the Scientific and Technological Committee created a full space of scientific and technological content, and soon also exposed to the educational and cultural content. What started as a dream, skin and tendons unfold before our eyes. Learning something new - thank you, "said Eitan Steve, the second Israeli in space.

In early 2022 the experiments will be sent as part of Axiom's Ax1m mission, the first private mission in history to the International Space Station. The team, led by veteran American-Spanish astronaut and Axiom Space Vice President Michael Lopez Allegria, will be the first crew in human history to be entirely private, which will stay and work on the station (subject to NASA and International Space Station crew approval).

On December 23, 2020, the Ramon Foundation announced a call for Israeli scientists, researchers and entrepreneurs, who in recent months have submitted their proposals for experiments, which will be performed at the International Space Station as part of Eitan Stiva's second space mission in space. The Ramon Foundation, the Israeli space agency at the Ministry of Science and Technology, and senior Israeli space agencies have worked in recent months with Israeli start-ups, scientists, and researchers to assist them in the process of submitting test proposals. As part of the process, training seminars and counseling sessions were held to adapt the experiments to space conditions, and the experimental teams were given access to the scientific and technological platforms at the International Space Station.

Ran Livneh, CEO of the Ramon Foundation and head of the Rakia mission, said this morning: "The high number of trials places Rakia as the most significant manned private mission in history. Just last week, we met with SpaceX and NASA officials who were amazed at the wealth of experiments they will perform in space. We believe in Israeli science and technology, and look forward to scientific discoveries that will affect human life on Earth and space. We are currently working with the Ministry of Science to assist selected experiments. "For the purpose of preparing, testing, packaging and sending them into space," he said.

"An important part of the 'Sky' mission is the continuation of the vision of the late Rona Ramon to combine advanced science with education and inspiration.

Educational teams from across the country will work on the scientific experiments.

In our vision, when Eitan performs each experiment in space - children in Israel will watch it live and will be able to perform the same experiment in the classroom at the same time.

"This is how we will expose the younger generation to the field of science, technology and space and connect them to what is happening at the International Space Station, which is considered by education experts to be an extraordinary educational resource, inspiring among the younger generation," Livna added.

In recent months, the Scientific and Technological Committee, which includes senior members of academia, industry and government in Israel, has convened to discuss all the experiments submitted to it. This morning, the 44 experiments selected by her were announced at the end of many discussions. The selected experiments are innovative and groundbreaking experiments from diverse content worlds, selected based on their research potential and their expected economic impact. These experiments are expected to lead to technological, scientific and medical breakthroughs that will affect humanity today on Earth, as well as extraterrestrial life - now on the International Space Station and later on human life on the Moon and Mars.

It will be emphasized that the experiments will be sent to the International Space Station subject to obtaining funding for the experiment, meeting the mission schedule, and NASA and Axiom Space approval. The Israeli Space Agency in the Ministry of Science and Technology will issue a call for funding the experiments subject to state budget approval. Ramon will help find additional sources of funding.

From innovative treatments for leukemia, through fast charging of lithium batteries to telescopic lenses from viscous liquids

Among the selected experiments, there is an experiment by the Electric Company in collaboration with Storedot, in the field of energy.

The experiment will test the performance of an innovative lithium-ion battery under micro-gravity conditions.

Today, there is a restriction on the use of the product commercially and in space the conditions will allow the process to be perfected - hence its great value.

The conclusions from the experiment may lead to rapid charging of the batteries, which are found in most electrical and electronic devices including wristwatches, laptops, electric vehicles and energy storage facilities, which are at the core of the future of the electricity sector.

Another experiment is the work of the oncology department at the Schneider Center for Pediatrics of the Clalit Group, which includes work by the patients - the children themselves, accompanied by the educational center and researchers from the field of medicine and the laboratory.

The aim of the study was to characterize leukemia conditions in conditions of under-gravity in the presence and absence of chemotherapy.

Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) is common in children undergoing chemotherapy - a treatment that may cause side effects.

The findings of the study, which will take place in space, will be compared to an identical experiment that will be conducted on Earth while monitoring the changes in the division of cancer cells and genetic expression.

The results of the study can contribute to the development of more effective innovative treatments and with fewer side effects.
