AstraZeneca vaccine: neurologists observe a rare risk of brain thrombosis even in older women

2021-05-06T09:38:19.813Z

Vaccination with AstraZeneca is recommended in Germany for people aged 60 and over. However, according to one study, women over 60 could also be affected by a very rare but dangerous complication.

First of all, the most important message: The complications described in this article after vaccination against Covid-19 are very rare occurrences.

The risk of each and every individual being affected is extremely low.

Still, it is important to understand these risks and speak openly about them.

According to a current study led by the German Society for Neurology (DGN), there is evidence that the risk of cerebral vein thrombosis after an AstraZeneca vaccination is not only increased in people under 60 years of age, but also in women who are 60 or older.

The work has not yet been reviewed by other researchers, but initially published as a so-called preprint.

This result can raise the question of whether the vaccination recommendation in Germany, according to which AstraZeneca is recommended for all people over 60 years of age, is the right one.

At the same time, the neurologists don't want to arouse unnecessary fears.
