The episode of "Wonderland" after the Meron disaster was too ordinary and too funny.

This is exactly the problem

"Wonderland" has in the past managed to deviate from its formula with painful crush sentences after not funny events at all.

This time she was left with the familiar imitations, as if it was just another dumb week in the Israeli discourse, without really realizing the intensity of the noise.

Faced with the heavy disaster, the satire last night seemed very limited

Walked next to the thing.

Last week a great country deviated from the political agenda when a truly horrific event was on the agenda. The struggle of the combatants and the IDF disabled, which began after Itzik Saidian set himself on fire in protest in front of the Rehabilitation Wing the evening before Memorial Day for IDF casualties, needed a different approach to such a painful point. "A Wonderful Land" she replied in one of the most radical sketches seen on screen in Israel in years, which is all a punch in the stomach by the creator of Udi Kagan. She did so in the past year as well when responding to a wave of women murder in the sketch "The Bachelorette Party." The creators of the program rightly accepted all the compliments.

Common to these two moments, which belong to the peaks of a wonderful country for generations, is the response to the punch line. The punch is no less disturbing and even more than funny, since not everything can be laughed at. And there is another matter, no less important, that is at the heart of the story, and that is putting the punch in the mouth of the man who is in danger: the blow of the battle, or the one who fears for her life within the walls of her house. They are the ones who demand that you think deeply about what for them is not a joke at all.

In Israel as in Israel, a country whose inhabitants it eats but on the face of it can provide quite a lot of material for satire programs, another terrible event came to the editorial table this week.

The disaster of Mount Meron for its dimensions, failures, responsibilities and guilt is a moment that shook all the seismographs of Israeli society, and naturally - there is nothing funny about it.

It was very intriguing to guess how a program like "A Wonderful Land," which seeks to describe the conscious and the unconscious of Israeli society, would react to it.

But this time, the successful program had a very difficult task.

You could even say it was a defeat: "Great Country" failed to mobilize its forces to distill from itself something sharp or unusual enough in relation to the event.

Television found it difficult to contain the Mount Meron disaster.

Does not need something sharp enough.

And not that she did not try: "Great Land" last night dedicated three sketches to the story: a show "Roll the Responsibility" with the characters of Netanyahu, Ministers Ohana, Regev and Deri and Commissioner Shabtai; The c police who will eventually pay for everyone's crimes; And the panel of unnecessary reactions to the event, with the characters of Yaron London, Leah Griner and Minister of Fitness. Shots in all directions, and even funny. A little too funny, a little too ordinary. In other words: it was a reasonable and ordinary episode of Great Country, and that's exactly the problem.

Not that there were no worthy targets for these pressures: the celebrities who are so preoccupied with themselves, which is reflected in the insensitive things that come out of their mouths;

Removing the annoying responsibility of the people in power;

And in front of it the culture of the goats to hell.

But unlike those two sketches mentioned above, all of these belong to the usual tool workshop of a great country, familiar imitations and regular humor, and did not seem like an unusual response to an unusual event but more like another dumb week in Israeli discourse, without illustrating the volume.

The arrogance of Ohana's character, Deri's quick and empty speech - these belong to sketches about much more mundane things.

People like to suffer, and that's why they invented Leah Griner and Yaron London

More earthy.

The creators of the show this time went near the thing itself.

Leah Griner is, after all, not this week's story.

In contrast, the people who are at the center of the disaster story did not get a vote.

Her most resonant, most disturbing, most painful punch line, perhaps should have put a great country in the mouth of an ultra-Orthodox figure.

But such figures, apart from Deri, did not appear on the show at all.

It may be that "Great Country" preferred, because of its proximity to disaster, to stay away from any chance of insensitivity.

This judgment is understandable and appropriate.

If so, this is the moment when we need to zoom out and say the obvious about what we saw yesterday: even the patrol weapons of the Israeli comedy look pale, meager and weak in the face of such a heavy disaster.
