Tens of thousands of Israelis wondered this morning whether this was another fraud or a legitimate SMS. The story began a little over a year ago, during the Corona eruption and the first closure. Three Israelis filed a lawsuit, in accordance with the Spam Law, against Yigal Raz, claiming that he sent hundreds of thousands of messages illegally and without the approval of the recipients of the messages.
The plaintiffs claimed that the message reached about 300,000 recipients, while Raz and an expert appointed by the court, ruled that "only" 10,000 messages were sent illegally. According to the ruling, the messages offered the recipients Amazon paid courses. The court confirmed the plaintiffs' claims, and ruled that compensation of NIS 40 is due to a participant in the class action - most of them did not even know that a lawsuit was being conducted and were part of it. Instead of paying NIS 40 to each participant in the lawsuit, the court ruled that compensation would be given in the form of an online course.
This time it is not a fraud, and indeed it is compensation given as a result of a compromise settlement approved as part of a class action. The court, the plaintiff and the defendants tried to assess the damage caused to the person who received the notice, and in the end it was ruled that the defendant would give an online course as a gift, at an estimated value of NIS 40 per person, i.e. NIS 400,000. This is a very basic Word course, given through videos. Surprisingly, the course is relatively comprehensive, and includes dozens of videos. However, this is a relatively old version of Word 2016.
