On the vertiginous escarpments of the furrow of Borgne and Plantiers (Gard), the genets are in bloom, dazzling.

A beauty that Luc Tessonnière or Martial Guerin will no longer see, the two victims of the Plantiers sawmill shot at close range last Tuesday.

Here, in this village transformed for four days into an entrenched camp, now freed from terror, everyone mourns the two children of the country, repeats the unjust fate that has been done to them.

Luc Teissonnière, 55, the sawmill owner, shot several times in the head, was a local figure.

It is, it seems, because he had noted with the kindness and humor that characterized him that Valentin Marcone had not said hello to him that morning, that he was killed.

The reflection would have acted as a pretext, a detonator.

Martial Guerin, one of the three employees of the sawmill, lost his life while trying to intervene.

A gesture that cost him his life too.

“We have just lost two men of great quality, exceptional quality and great kindness.

We are going to mourn them for a long, long time, ”exclaims one of the village traders in shock, still paralyzed by this dramatic sequence.

Here, everyone is wondering how a normal life will be able to resume.

Luc Teissonnière was a guy from the Plantiers, his family has its roots there for several generations. He is described as solid, benevolent and laughing, known far beyond the village, in the Cévennes massif. His success aroused admiration: “From a piece of coppice, overgrown with vegetation, he set up a business, his sawmill. He was then 24 years old. He disbursed the land, financed his project. And he had become the great specialist in chestnut wood, recognized throughout Languedoc for his talents as a precision sawyer and connoisseur of Cévennes wood. See for yourself the framework he provided me for the multipurpose room at my campsite and which is admired by all my customers who take their selfies there, ”explains Claude Legrand, one of his neighbors and hunting friend. Luc Tessonnière had an older son and a daughter. His wife Fiona works in a pharmacy in Anduze.

A hardworking boy, calm and upright

Martial Guerin, 32, an employee of the sawmill was born in Haute-Savoie, in Ambilly, but he had become Cévennes by adoption.

“Martial arrived

with us

at the age of 9, in 1999. Maurice, his father, a heavy truck driver, was unemployed.

I hired him and they settled in the village with Jeanine, Martial's mother and her little sister.

Today, they are an integral part of this village, ”adds Claude Legrand, who mourns his two friends.

He describes him as a hardworking boy, calm and upright, who spared no effort for others, in particular as an active volunteer for the town's festival committee, whose demonstrations punctuate the social life of the Plantiers.

Martial had no children, but he shared his life for a long time with Camille, whose parents have a second home here. The couple led a peaceful and happy life in Saumane, 6 km from Les Plantiers. The courageous young man who tried to save his boss will be buried on Friday, May 21 in the small cemetery of Saumane. This spring in the Cévennes mountains will be the color of mourning.
